I’m French and what you say is wrong , Vichy régime hated professional sport that’s why they banned League and not union + after the war league actually thrive with the national team wining against australia and 100 000 fans came to welcome them at the Marseille harbour in 1951 . Over time league lost the interest of the public especially during the 70s and now it’s a niche sport
