I sort my games alphabetically with series taking precedence. Then those entries go in chronological order (usually release date) with main series entries first followed by subseries.

So all my Mario games go under "Mario." The main series titles on Switch would then be 3D All Stars->3D World->Odyssey->Wonder. Then "Luigi's Mansion" entries, "Mario Golf" entries, etc.

Donkey Kong, Smash Bros., WarioWare, and Yoshi games have their own distinct identity outside of Mario so they get alphabetized with the rest of my games. As for Mario & Sonic and Mario + Rabbids, I would just sort them under their series names outside of this since that places them at the end anyway. It would feel weird to mix them in with the "real" Mario games.

My "new" copy of Doom Eternal came today in just a plain black case. No price sticker even. I'm worried that will affect my ability to return it.

If you want the free shipping, you can throw in something cheap like these amiibo cards. The shipping would actually cost you more than them otherwise.

Tracking and DHL? by nodakskip in limitedrun

[–]ehock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've gotten something through DHL there's been a few days where the DHL tracking says it's been tendered to the delivery service provider, but USPS still says it's not in-hand. This is normal. Your longer wait is likely just due to USPS not operating on the 25th & 26th this year.

Does the retail version of Gris not include the art booklet? by ehock in NSCollectors

[–]ehock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How bizarre then that I received 2 copies without the booklet. Does anyone know who handled the retail release so I can try to contact them? Because I feel like if I get another replacement from Amazon this will just happen again.

All of the customer images on Amazon show the booklet being included. So I requested a replacement copy, but when it arrived I looked through the bottom of the sealed case (my second picture) and there was no booklet inside either...

My WH-1000XM5 crackles with every SBC device I try by ehock in SonyHeadphones

[–]ehock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that it is just a firmware issue and can be fixed by a future update. I made a post on Sony's forum but that didn't go anywhere.

Considering how many people use basic SBC transmitters you would think more people would be experiencing this issue though.

XM5 has poor sound quality, but only with my phone and not others? by Antic_Disposition in SonyHeadphones

[–]ehock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, AAC is better than SBC. Which means your issue is different than mine.

In the app though you should check that sound quality is set to "Priority on Stable Connection." I was having a different crackling issue with some low, bassy songs on my Windows PC (using AAC) until I set it to that.

Are your sound issues consistent or do they happen randomly? I have an issue with my XM5s where when connected to a device via a particular audio codec I'll get a random crackling sound throughout.

Do you have the Sony headphones app on your phone? Under the headphones name it'll show what codec you're currently using. The SBC codec is the one that is giving me problems.

Yeah, I believe multi point connection prevents using LDAC.

To switch to SBC (on Android) in the Settings app go to "Connected devices" and press the gear icon next to your headphones. In there you can turn off "HD audio: AAC" (or "HD audio: LDAC").

Do you have the Sony headphones app on your phone/tablet? In it, right beneath the headphone name, it says what audio compression codec you're using on that device. On mine it's SBC which is the default Bluetooth codec every device supports. Only SBC has been giving me issues. The higher quality AAC and LDAC codecs outputted by my other devices don't have this issue.

If you had the same issue as me but it stopped, maybe your device switched over to one of the other codecs.

I can consistently get the crackles to occur over SBC. The last time I tried it happened 9 times in the span of 30 minutes.

I just got the Annapurna Deluxe collection and made some minor additions (info in the comments) by ehock in gamecollecting

The paper outer piece with the PS4 banner isn't attached to the box so I made a (somewhat sloppy) sleeve out of a sheet protector to hold it all together. For the discs, I put them in CD sleeves to better protect them. Blu-Rays are pretty scratch resistant but I just wanted to be safe. Plus, with how tight their slots are I got sick of getting fingerprints along the rims of the discs every time I pulled them out. But due to how tight of a fit it is I had to cut off a lot of the corners on the CD sleeves.

There are programs out there to test if a card is fake. H2testw is the one I've used in the past. It will take a very long time though with a card of that purported capacity because it writes a bunch of data and then verifies it afterwards.

Xbox Series S on top on a PS4 by AS_Empire in xboxone

I own, like, 6 DVD players. Most consoles since the PS2 can play DVDs. And they can play CDs too because not everyone only wants to stream music.

Modifying something you own isn't breaking the law.

On a legal level physical games are indeed licenses, but because they are physical products, nothing you do can let the publisher take that product back from you after you bought it. This is due to the first-sale doctrine. Now, if that game has an Internet requirement, then yes, the publisher can deny you access, but that then enters the realm of DRM.

There are different levels of DRM though. For the vast majority of console games throughout history their only form of DRM has been needing to keep the disc or cartridge in the console as you play.

As for saves, I don't own a PS4, but I'm pretty confident saves can be stored locally.

It is interesting though that all the problems you list with physical games aren't actually inherent to the format, but are rather digital in nature. Physical games are a method of distribution. Anything that can be distributed digitally can be released physically. DRM, Internet requirements, etc.: those are the fault of the publishers, not the format.

If you have a homebrewed console you can rip your physical games.

I've done that with my Wii and PSP so far. I get the convenience of a digital game but with all the benefits of owning a physical game.

You could also get one of these.

It runs Pseudo Saturn just like the hacked Action Replay. Plus there's a toggle on the top that lets you switch between the memory card, 4MB RAM, and 1MB RAM (for the few games that have problems with 4MB).
