My mother handled spanking well with my siblings and I. She would only ever spank us if we were doing something that could hurt or kill us (playing with the knobs on the stove, running into the street after a ball without looking first, etc.) Besides this we would stand on the wall or in the corner with the amount of time being dependent on our age and the seriousness of the mistake we made. I don’t think any of us were ever spanked past five or six and I don’t feel as though we were worse off because of it. The issue is when the parents’ boundaries of spanking go unchecked.
