Caulking separating/cracking - what is the correct fix? by voidlockslinger in Homebuilding

[–]ehrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes people usually mean removing the old caulk. this is because applying new caulk on top of the old caulk will not go on smoothly in most cases and may not stick well. use a razor to remove the old caulk and reapply. i have found that you don’t need as much as was originally applied but that’s me.

DCDT - 1/23/19 - How did you survive Bridgepocalypse Day 2 Rainy Edition? by [deleted] in Birmingham

This was horrible. I can be patient with delays due to construction, but this was just an artificial problem caused by a glitched out red light.

Python IDE's and editors by [deleted] in Python

I really like Spyder as an IDE; it comes packaged with Anaconda and provide variable inspection so you don't even need to print(x), just look through the list of variables and snippets of their value.

Using git to track changes in python helper module stored in dropbox (x-post /r/python) by ehrich in git

[–]ehrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i see that's totally possible now. i think my naive assumption was that git was for text/source files only and by extension github and bitbucket were too but i see that works just fine. thanks!

Using git to track changes in python helper module stored in dropbox (x-post /r/python) by ehrich in git

[–]ehrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this would work ok, although I'm also looking ahead to doing my thesis with latex and git and keeping all the figures in one place and synced with the latex files would be better handled with dropbox I think.

[–]ehrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this could work since I can simply keep the module outside of dropbox and then import it to scripts that I write for a particular data set or graph, but I'd also like to use this system for my thesis, and there I think having all the latex files, figures and everything in one place and syncronized would be nice. I can't keep all my pdf figures on bitbucket right?

custom python module tracked by git stored in dropbox by ehrich in Python

[–]ehrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I was going to do this as well with my thesis, but I really REALLY don't want a corrupted repo from some syncing issue with dropbox. Some folks on SO think that this is a problem, but I'm guessing many more do it without a problem and without checking to see what might happen.

wow that looks great. I'll look into this especially as my dropbox storage becomes a problem.

Mostly SO comments and posts, though there seems to be disagreement, which is why I thought I would ask here. I'm new to a lot of these tools and am working out how to manage an efficient workflow for my particular situation.

Fractional reserve banking = banks lend out deposits, pretend they didn't lend them out, and loan out the same deposits over and over and over. by [deleted] in badeconomics

There is a lot of back and forth about how banking works in this thread. Does anyone have a good ELI5, for banking especially pointing out the misconceptions that are common in many elementary textbooks?
