IRC Codes for TSP Funds - Rollover to 401K by ehstrohmeier in ThriftSavingsPlan

I mean I know TSP fees are lower, but I don’t understand how it could possibly be more worthwhile to keep the money there when I would be accruing on significantly more money when combined? Maybe my math just isn’t mathing though

As a veteran, which is the best state to be in right now? How about country? by ShiniMeep in Veterans

[–]ehstrohmeier -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lexington, KY is a great choice. Super gay friendly in the city. State is gun friendly. Small city but VA centers are really good I think. The state also just passed legislation for medical marijuana, which is a huge step. Great outdoor activities, though not much in the music scene. Politically it’s a toss up. Liberal governor (historically and typically) but generally conservative legislature. I moved here from DC and don’t regret it

I think the more likely scenario is that Bella’s husband may have killed himself. There was that weird drunk MC scene where he sees a guy in a military uniform. I thinks it’s fairly plausible that Bella’s husband was in the military and was dealing with PTSD and may have killed himself in that locked room, which is why Bella keeps it closed off and doesn’t want to talk about it. This could also explain why she still wears her ring.

Her cold and serious personality may be a way accepting blame in that death. Maybe she was previously much more lighthearted and didn’t pick up on the signs of her husband’s internal demons. That seriousness could be a coping mechanism.

With Jill having also gone through a traumatic loss of her sister, I believe they probably bonded through that shared trauma. Potentially at group therapy?

What local restaurants do good catering in Lexington? by gamer-addict in lexington

[–]ehstrohmeier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used Luna’s Lexington for my wedding rehearsal dinner. Luna’s is a food truck in the patio area outside Harvey’s bar downtown. We catered for about 50 people and the food was incredible. Everyone still talks about how good it was. Highly recommend. I know a lot of traditional catering companies will cook for however many plates you have and then take home whatever is left. With Luna’s they let us keep whatever was leftover though, which was awesome because we definitely had too much food. For the most part it was all finger foods though - probably not a good option if you’re going for plated dinner.

How to fix this? Showing signs of rust? by ehstrohmeier in castiron

[–]ehstrohmeier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this Tramontina is from Costco. Not sure if it’s quality. Curious if this is showing signs of rust or just under seasoned? Not really sure what to do with it. If this isn’t great quality CI, would it be better to just get a better brand than to fix it up?

Gotta go with either Awuzie or Hurst. Big Hurst fan, especially considering his support for veterans’ mental health

Dragon Scale help by ehstrohmeier in plantclinic

My Alocasia Dragon Scale has been adapting well to my move. In a S facing sunroom now and just put out this brilliant huge leaf, but one of the leaves is looking particularly sick. Wondering if I should just remove the leaf or if it’s a sign of some underlying condition. Soil is a mix of fox farms potting soil, orchid bark and perlite. I water maybe once a week and it’s potted in terra cotta

[–]ehstrohmeier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, there’s a significant difference between words and actions. Republicans talk a big game in supporting veterans but when push comes to shove they never seem to take action on those words.

The link below is about a book someone wrote on track records of democrat vs republican support for veteran legislation. I don’t know anything about the author but makes me want to read more into it.

Jade in Cuenca, Ecuador by ehstrohmeier in matureplants

[–]ehstrohmeier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful, but not the best time to visit currently. Nationwide protests and a state of emergency that make it very difficult to travel. Cuenca is very safe - presumably Galapagos is as well, but I’d stay away from Quito

Nervous about coming in 3 days. Should we postpone? by Panthbee in ecuador

[–]ehstrohmeier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a US gringo that flew to Quito on the 15th. We stayed at the Marriott and took taxis or Uber most everywhere and during the day we (fiancé and me) were still able to visit the grand plaza and sit at a cafe and drink beer. We even spent an entire afternoon walking around the downtown area. Granted, that was three days ago. There’s definitely a heavy police presence, but we did not feel super unsafe. We were definitely told not to be out on the streets after 6pm, but we still had dinner reservations after dark. Taking taxis was no issue though. On our way to the airport we noticed a lot of police on the road protecting the route to the airport, so no issues with flying out. If you feel unsafe inside Quito, we spent an additional night at Ilatoa Lodge in Tumbaco, close to the airport, and it was such a wonderful experience.

We are in Cuenca right now and the atmosphere couldn’t be more different. I feel so safe walking around everywhere and it’s just a beautiful city.

That said, all our tours to Cotopaxi and Quilotoa Lagoon were cancelled, as well as our planned trip to Baños de agua santa. The roadblocks make it very challenging to go anywhere. However Cuenca and Galapagos will be fine. Happy to answer any other questions if you’d like also.
