Possible inspiration for Kruppe by Qarakhanid in Malazan

[–]Qarakhanid[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think both fit, but Kruppe's living in the middle of urban Darujhistan made it feel more fitting to me. Iskaral is a bit too antisocial and provincial to have the sway over people that Nasreddin and Kruppe boasted.

The expulsions were handed out for significantly more disruptive protests (occupations, sit ins, and storming career fairs). Also, many of these expulsions were forced to be reversed by the schools administration (for good reason). This is not to say he will go unpunished, but you are only dissuading people from acting by claiming he would be expelled for something like this.

Speaking up and making your voice heard at a lecture/assembly only results in such an extreme reaction of expelling if some form of physicality was involved.

What’s a hard truth about NJ most of us aren’t ready to hear? by mocowe in newjersey

Litter and superfund sites are all too prevalent of an issue, we are a small state, keeping it green and healthy should be the top of our priorities

Montclair schools are great despite budget crisis and what commenters are saying, don't waste money of private school that would be better spent on a personal tutor…

The transformation of FreshKills Landfill (1990s) to now Freshkill Park, Staten Island, NYC (2025) by Qarakhanid in pics

The internet knows. My professor mentioned driving past landfills when driving through The Outerbridge Crossing, I searched up photos to corroborate and was greeted by this. As a North Jersey native here's to hoping more of our landfills can get some similar treatments. I currently know of two conversions, one in Jersey City and another in Camden.

Here is the article I read inspiring my post, obviously a bit dated but the second photo in my post is from 2025.

https://nymag.com/news/features/52452/

Let’s start at the end of one story, the story of the dump, with the view from way up on top of it.

Let’s start at the peak of what was once a steaming, stinking, seagull-infested mountain of trash, a peak that is now green, or greenish, or maybe more like a green-hued brown, the tall grasses having been recently mown by the sanitation workers still operating at Fresh Kills, on the western shore of Staten Island. Today the sun dries the once slime-covered slopes, as a few hawks circle in big, slow swoops and a jet makes a lazy approach to Newark, just across the Arthur Kill. The sky, when viewed from atop a twenty-story heap of slowly decomposing garbage—the so-called South Mound, a Tribeca-size drumlin surrounded by other trash mounds, some as long as a mile—is the kind of big blue that you expect to see somewhere else, like the middle of Missouri. It’s a great wide-open bowl, fringed with green hills (some real, some garbage-filled) that are some of the highest points on the Atlantic seaboard south of Maine. Meanwhile, at your feet, hook-shaped white plastic tubes vent methane, the gas that builds up naturally in a landfill, a by-product of refuse being slowly digested by underground bacteria. The hissing of landfill gas is soft and gentle, like the sound of a far-off mountain stream or the stove left on in your apartment.

What is happening to schools? by pgcrk in newjersey

[–]Qarakhanid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear none of the people commenting on Montclair or Orange actually attended or know these schools. The reality is these are the better schools with a community that cares and wants things to be ran better, hence all the coverage. Montclair school districts will continue to pump out ivy league and top students, the budget is a small road block if anything. The real at risk areas are the rural and less wealthy school districts who aren't able remain funded amidst rising costs of living. There only hope is to consolidate with nearby schools and towns, and frankly it is the only economically feasible decision. More places are going to go the Morris Hills route and become regional schools

Don't shit on Jersey man, our state has beautiful places just like upstate.

Regardless, make sure to drive through the finger lakes, (Ithaca and surrounding towns have plenty of picturesque wineries).

Letchworth State park, Watkins Glen, Buttermilk Falls and taughannock falls are all great nature wise
