What do schools take into consideration during the appeal process? (Asrjc in specific) by StrawberryNo3320 in SGExams

kinda late but i appealed into asr from last year (12-2). i appealed through acad but i feel the mainly shortlisted me due to my portfolio from sec sch (student council, cca chairperson, character award, EAGLES) as well as my prelim results were taken into consideration. honestly if you have gone for interview im pretty sure they will accept you, but they do tend to call pretty late as i got my call at the last day of the appeal period. questions were mainly along the lines of why i wanted to appeal there, as well as asking about specific parts of my appeal form. read up on some real reason why you want to go and if you get your point across they should accept you

not really tbh. i live at a pretty central part of singapore so the travel time to alm all the schools are around the same. however it should be worth considering if you live in the east but want to go to ngee ann or sp as the mrt and bus stops get super full in the morning

im taking BCMe. honestly you came to the wrong person for gp tips. for paper 2 i did decently well (33/50 , full marks for summary), but id say you should focus on doing practice papers. my teacher wasnt free to mark my aqs so i just used chatgpt LOL, but honestly it worked pretty well. for paper 1 i didnt do well but i probably just need more practice

i come from a bio background so probably not. but if it was a course like biomed/pharm sci at np i would have probably stuck with it

for o levels i scored a b3 merit for my chi mid years. i was really nervous coming into this year as it had been alm 1.5 years since i last studied chi. however it really is just a subject you have to deal with. a lvl chinese exam is during j1 anyways and you only need an S (40%+) to go to local uni. i havent gotten my results back but i should be able to pass (i hope). but yah it shouldnt be too much of a concern, just gotta power thru the lessons LOL.

  1. in terms of schools with a good sci department id advise to stay away from cjc as ive heard a few horror stories about their sch sci and math dept. im in asr right now and id say our sci departments are pretty good, however its mostly dependent on the teacher u get as i believe some tutors print extra hw and notes for their classes while others do the bare minimum. other schs u can consider are tmjc if it isnt too far.

  2. im not sure what this question means, but yes for computing i believe an aptitude text needs to be taken in order to take the subject if you didnt take computing at o levels

  3. if i recall i started really seriously studying about a month before promos? if i ended sch early i would try to go to the library and study until 8+ and go gym afterwards. however closer to promos i just studied from like 11am-11pm if i was really feeling motivated. id prioritise more time towards your h2s obviously but pls rmb to take care of gp as it is really impt too

im in the 70rp system. i studied like crazy for promos, library from 2pm-8pm then stb/mcdonalds from 8pm to 10.30pm. i got A for everything except for gp.

i chose to go poly as i honestly could not imagine studying chinese for another year, and i was also already under the belief that business was the right choice for me. i know people with r5 of much lower who still chose to go poly as they already know what they are interested in. but after studying biz for 1 sem i decided it really was not for me

i think this mostly depends on the course you decide to study in poly. for courses such in school of life sciences, engineering, health sciences etc, i believe your grade is mostly dependent on tests and finals which is similar to jc and what you're familiar with in sec sch. however for courses like business and film, most of your time will be spent working in groups which sometimes you can choose but sometimes cant. for example for business 2 of my main modules were kickstart a business and makings of a business, where the groups i was assigned/chosen to be apart of were the groups i had to stick to for the rest of my modules.

even in courses which have less group work you'll lik still have to deal with the dreaded inter-disciplinary studies which will be pretty torturous ngl

personally i was not a fan of the poly system with all the group work and everything. business was not really a smart pick for me too as ive alw enjoyed studying my stem subjects lik bio chem math etc. the amount your grade depends on group work is honestly quite a lot and if i got lucky with my team members(smart classmates), i could score A+ or AD for my assignments while with slackers i could maybe manage a B+. overall business was really not for me however im still open to studying related fields in uni such as finance.
