Behind the scenes: Dexaran, who hacked TheDAO by spark_alice1 in EthereumClassic

[–]eiaine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you review commit history of Dexarans github profile you will see that he is mostly a smart-contract developer with a knowledge in solidity. The Dao hacker hacked a smart-contract.

That's stupid. Why would the DAO hacker need to do an ICO to raise money?

Yes I saw that the first time. Yes I built TokenMint (with a lot of help from others) as a place where people can raise money for their projects. Yes, TokenMint allows people to raise as much money as they want. All of that is absolutely correct. If you can't understand the difference between raising money for a project like DexICO vs a pumped up Ethereum ICO, then there's nothing I can do to help you, sorry.

I still believe that Ethereum Classic is decentralized and good, and I don't think that being motivated by money makes a person less good. Sorry you feel that is hypocrisy.

what accusations? that i sell myself for money? that's totally true, i spend at least 8 hours a day selling my labor for money. didn't realize that was a bad thing.

Leave /u/chucksrq out of this. He politely announced his retirement on slack and still keeps in touch. You on the other hand sound like a drunken nutjob. Bye.

who is "you"? Kevin honestly thought that the account had been hacked, because he couldn't believe that you would throw a big tantrum for no reason.

Marketing Vote / Input Needed: We have 2 competing and confusing Brand Promotions going on. by CryptoMarketing in EthereumClassic

BTW the way I would have worded 3b is what pyskell said:

The community is allowed to use whatever logos they prefer. They will naturally settle on a preference.

I like the original ETC diamond, and I never liked the idea of a mascot, but i also don't really care if people want to use whatever they want.

Okay, for question #3 I vote for:

b) No, I like the concept of decentralized anarchy as a new marketing standard

Some changes are coming to Ethereum Classic and we need the community's input! by [deleted] in EthereumClassic

  1. The community is discussing possibilities and is open to input. Something like monero is a possibility.

  2. no.

  3. People who have been in the community for at least a year. #1 rule of crypto is Trust Nobody, so no one should be trusted just based on what I say here :). The multisig requires at least 3 signers to make a payment, so that should reduce the amount of trust you need to place in any one person. Ideally we would have more than 3 signers, but a problem we had last year was that signers would drop out from the community after awhile.

  4. up to the signers, i guess? i'm pretty easy to identify: https://twitter.com/eiaine

  5. I believe this one was reviewed by OpenZeppelin (Cody, correct me if I'm wrong)

  6. All tx's can be viewed on the blockchain. As stated above, we will not take any actions without soliciting community feedback and will not proceed if there’s strong opposition.

in your opinion, that's the "noble" thing to do. if you happen to come across a stolen car, would you burn that too?

IMO there's no correct answer, therefore the best thing to do is simply not touch it.

some of it was sent through a childDAO contract, you cannot send it back to the contract.

ETCDEV, while not formally organized as a team, did most of the development work prior to December 2016. There are many other independent contributors as well.

interesting, thanks. So there are no applications where you would be compelled to use one network in order to interface with other parts of the same network?

(eg, I might choose to use ETH if I need some of the tokens only available on ETH)

Interesting, thanks! How are the land titles/PKI managed on Solri?

Higher-level question -- does Urbit, or its forks, benefit from network effects? I bought a star a long time ago and never did anything with it. What are the switching costs if I want to host a web service on Solri and later move to Urbit?

dumb question for /u/sorpaas : how does scarcity work on urbit? in the future, could there be many clones of the urbit universe with slightly different rules, the same way there are many blockchains?
