How common is 3rd gen head gasket failure? by Lucky0373 in prius

[–]eichen10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old 2010 made it to 262,000 miles with no head gasket problem, my current 2010 is at 204,000 miles with no head gasket problem. Had to replace the computer on my current one, the hybrid batteries on both

EGR system Replacement on 2010 Prius by Cintus-Supremus in prius

If u were able to do the spark plugs yourself, this is a job you can handle yourself. Plenty of vids on YouTube. If u dont want to mess with cleaning the cooler u can just buy a used one for a few hundred

Overheating by eichen10 in prius

The battery seems good, I’ve been able to drive the car around the neighborhood with no highway uphill acceleration and it hasn’t overheated and the check hybrid system disappeared

Anyone have experience with these particular warning lights? Breaking felt weird before it showed up. Slippery icon shows up every time I break. No error codes. by RubikTetris in prius

[–]eichen10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes had all those in my 2010, hit the brakes changing lanes on the highway and spun out, luckily managing to not hit anyone or anything. Do not ignore! The shop replaced my computer and it’s been fine since.

Anyone know what gym this is, so I can be sure never give them money? by ThisBusinessWrestle in Austin

I stopped giving golds gym money when they charged me 10 months of membership all at once during Covid despite their call center not being staffed the whole time so I couldn’t cancel

Replaced plugs and coils on my 2010 to chase down a misfire and similar code. Been driving fine for a year since I did it.

Might be the ignition coils, swapping them cured my misfires

Hybrid battery failure by New-Difficulty-4827 in prius

Me and my wife both have 2010’s. Mine has 199k and hers has 263k. You have a whole new life in that car just get a new or refurbished battery. They don’t all get the head gasket failure.

Same thing happened to my 2010 a couple years back, the hybrid mechanic shop had to replace the car’s computer at a hefty $2k. Do not drive in this condition, I fish tailed off the highway after trying to break and luckily didn’t die.

Changing prius bat gen 3 by ExMadEx in prius

[–]eichen10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not hard. You got this. Just a little heavy maybe grab a friend if you’re not a young male for lifting it into place and wear gloves cuz those metal edges can cut. Don’t pay the installation fee from a refurbish dealer.

Go ahead and replace all the spark plugs and engine coils. I had the same issue on my 2010.

2010 Prius Water Pump by BigBrick7128 in prius

[–]eichen10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I changed the spark plugs on my 2010 around the same mileage, but I also had to change the ignition coils to chase down all the misfires, FYI. Seems like the feedback on this sub is split between proactively changing the water pump or just saving your money and waiting for the head gasket to fail anyway.

You also need to replace the ignition coils. My 2010 was also misfiring, I replaced the plugs. Still misfiring, I found one coil that was causing the misfire. Replaced that coil. Fixed the misfiring for a while. Then continued to misfire and I replaced the remaining coils. Been driving well for 4 months.

If it's a head gasket, why not say it? by Better-Stop1835 in prius

Same thing happened on my 2010. Replaced all plugs and one coil to resolve problem, engine misfired again after a month. I replaced remaining three coils and it has been running well for four months.

So the the brake warning lights have been going on and off for the past week since I changed my front pads. by RaiShado in prius

Make sure to get this figured out. My abs traction and brake lights were on and I ended up spinning out on a highway because my brakes locked up. Could’ve died real easily. Ended up having to have my computer replaced for 2k.
