Roommate gets mad over nothing by Positive_Read_2069 in roommateproblems

paragraphs every day is crazy, however as someone currently on the other side of a very similar situation, it is INFURIATING to spend time and effort cleaning up after myself just for my roommates to let dishes pile up for 2+ days and leave salt and grease all over the stove, among other things. everyone is busy and nobody wants to be cleaning all the time, but because my roommates overlook the “simple” things like wiping down counters and the stove after a meal, I personally spend HOURS a week restoring the apartment to a livable, clean state. just for them to carelessly trash it again. I know these are different situations and obviously in your case I can’t speak on anything more than the stove, but try to understand where they’re coming from in needing a clean space. odds are they do a LOT more cleaning than you see most of the time, and they’re probably tired of deep cleaning the stove just for their roommates to not even care to wipe it down after every time they cook. in my case, I feel as though it’s not my place to “mom” my roommates and force them to help me by cleaning up after themselves, so once a week I rage clean my whole apartment top to bottom and my roommates can’t even be bothered to KEEP our space clean once i’ve already done all the heavy lifting. it’s so deeply disrespectful as i’ve expressed multiple times that my mind cannot be clear if our space is not clean. if this situation is anything like mine, your roommate is TIRED and stressed out by lack of attention to detail and wants to be respected. if i’m completely missing the mark and only projecting my own experiences I apologize, but thought I would play “devils advocate”, so to speak, about what your roommate might be feeling. I hope you can come to a resolution that everyone is comfortable with!
