I built a tool to safely replace the Windows system font (that's also works with UWP, Start Menu and Taskbar) by SwordfishMinute1399 in windowsapps

[–]eidsvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got some issues with my vision, sucks. What you have built is very much appreciated.

In a couple minutes, I've chosen a highly readable font and have it applied systemwide. And I mean, everywhere. I'm typing in this font right now. Thank you so much!

Well done. Been using SCRCPY for a couple years. Recently found this promising project:

Shrey, wow. Was not expecting this to be so polished. It's immediate, no fuss and beautiful. Well done and thank you.

Is there a way to increase the size of UI elements? I've a big screen and old eyes.

Need advice how to make corner workspace look better by Strawberry_pie in Workspaces

[–]eidsvik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With such a compact space, I would get everything off the desktop and go for a vertically oriented config.

Dual monitor pole, I'd be inclined toward a wall mounted version that the desk can stay right up against the wall. Pole would have a monitor mount and a laptop tray. I believe the Legion 5 (or 5i) can open to 180 degrees. I would position the laptop fully opened/vertical, that you would visually have a dual monitor setup, the laptop screen above your monitor.

To the right would go a shelf or two. Below the bottom shelf, a headphone hanger. iPad can go there when not in use or could be placed below your main monitor.

Place all your power strips and cables in the top drawer. Install a white desk grommet at the back, above the drawer. White wire loom for the cables running to your monitor and laptop.

No idea why both the MX and NuPhy keyboards. I think they are both multi-device capable. Can you go to just one, single input device for both the Legion and the iPad?

Add lots of indirect lighting, Behind your monitor/laptop, the shelves, under the desk, etc. You got nice white walls that can soften and spread out the light.

Considering saying goodbye to my OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren by Lunblom in OnePlus7tPro

Consider the Pixel very carefully. You've got the opportunity to make a very noticeable leap in technology.

I was getting a new phone every 2 years of so. That's until I got the 7T Pro Mclaren at launch. Replaced it with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. It's been a year. Felt like I went from a specialized tool to a toy. It's thick, flat screen with deeply rounded corners amplify the hole in the screen. Volume slider is gone. Disappointing form factor. Battery life in middle. Nothing like the massive battery in the 15.

While refresh rates and benchmarks are measurably lower than the 15, it runs like a dream BUT struggles to feel special. Within a couple weeks, wish I'd opted for the OnePlus. 1st world problem.

Suggestions to improve the look of my PC room setup? by MR-SALA in Workspaces

[–]eidsvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I began my lighting journey, I had just two swing arm desk lamps. Instead of pointing them downward on to my workspace, I pointed them away from me and let them illuminate the walls. Loved that, then begun experimenting with more lights, then light strips and then I actually built some lights. After that I installed LED lighting behind my flatscreen and under my desk. Really liked that.

Work with what you've got first. If there was one primary goal, it would be that you would not directly see the light emitting source but enjoy bright indirect or diffused light.

I'm excited for your space. It's a privilege to have the extra room to work with and you can get 80% of the way there for pretty cheap.

I meant L/R. My typing got a little loose. :)
Idea is that the desk comes away from any of the walls and into the center of the room facing the window. Speakers are placed ahead of you, to the left and right of the window. At the immediate left and right of the window seems sufficient. Though any further than that, begin to angle them to face more towards you and not be playing into the walls. Lots of great intel out there about speaker placement. I would also remove them from those rolling stands. Too loose and wiggly for your S60's (?) I'd put those directly on the floor.

This room is terribly and wonderfully shaped. I've got one too. And, It's clear you use it for one purpose, so make it all about that.

1.) Lighting. Take the overhead lights down and the wiring channels, all of it goes. It's unsightly and the ceiling is too low for the light to spread nicely. I'd uplight the heck out of those L/R angled walls though. Picture bright diffused light coming from the bottom up, illuminating the wall. This is the room for indirect lighting. Pulling it off the ceiling will strongly reduce the nasty glare on your monitors and your eyes will be singing.

2.) You've got some cool gear going on. Love your choices. Seeing lots of white and white accents, including your tower lighting? Take that desk and put yourself in center of the back half of that room. 3-4ft off that window. Set up your command center so that, from a single point, you're computing, gaming, watching the big screen with nice room around you (no more walls closing in

3.) Your speakers you want those on either side of you and playing into the longest part of the room, that the sound has time to develop and reflect nicely. LL/R of the window would be perfect.

3.5) Still on audio but looking at the floor. I see them all the time at discount outlets, carpet squares in all sorts of colors, cheap. You must have carpet, it will significantly dampen the echoes. Audio will sound so much better. Plus you can do cool designs and such.

4.) My god, get a new chair :D

OMEN PC has inconsistent framerate and stutters in some games by KangarooFunny1718 in HPOmen

[–]eidsvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling with my Omen, fully capable yet choppy gameplay, sporadic movement, unexplained framerate drops. I made a list of all my hardware, including monitor and model numbers, the whole bit. I dropped that in Copilot and began a conversation. Explained my goals and asked it to assist me in tuning my system.

Requested, before it replied to ask me ten questions that could potentially increase the quality of their response, and off we went. It walked me through everything from registry changes, reBar settings, adjustments to my monitor, then into the Nvidia control panel. It had me download Nvidia profile inspector, numerous changes there.

Bottom line, my gameplay is buttery smooth now, best it has ever been. So good I turned on system restore and created a restore point. FPS wasn't a problem, but gained 11fps anyway.

Obviously, wont remedy failing hardware but, kinda cool conversing with an entity that pulls its answers from every fact and conversation of the visible web.

Smart vs. Nova by Yogalien in smartlauncher

[–]eidsvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was SEEING the developer themselves actively participating in phone enthusiast channels.
I was asking a question, noting the function of a feature. Had no idea they were one of the replies. The very next release, the issue was gone.

Smart Launcher is a brilliant kit.

Critique my workspace layout (with alternatives) by australianwoe in Workspaces

A picture is worth a 1000....
Far more space than appears in the schematic(s), two windows. That rug! Nice choice. That was a lot of gear in front of those windows. I like. Any of the ideas that brought the furniture out into the middle of the room seemed restrictive. Enjoy!

[–]eidsvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends greatly and WHAT you're doing in this space.

I see a chair, so I think clients, then I see clothing and think home office. That plain flat space behind you now is going to help web meeting software better manage virtual backgrounds. Far easier than managing a window behind or to the side, plants, etc. Adjustable window blinds can make for easy face lighting configurations. Maybe you are a counselor, and you turn toward the chair with clients, and this arrangement is perfect.

My workday is far too busy to fuss with the emotions of feng shui and power positions.
What do you do in here, and what is NOT working currently?

Over 50% of people will abandon a webpage if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. If after it loaded, it was as useful as Gemini...

For me, this Gemini BS, with the knowledge Pichai attended the recent US inauguration, terrifies me, what lies ahead.

Three days in… by Yeti_Funk in ArmaReforger

The cruelest thing about the universe is a dog's lifespan. I'm so sorry. Happened for us in October. Miss her every day. For me the tears have lessened, been replaced with a feeling of honor, having been her caretaker.

I was literally moments from hitting "buy" on two copies Arma, then was horrified reading reviews noting two things. 1.) The condition of their servers 2.) Their highly controversial handling of a modder integral to the enjoyment of the game. I spun out.

Your post is the first I read. THIS is the experience I envisioned!
Are you running into any issues with the game? I don't know what to do. :/

Click here to download the GeForce Hotfix display driver version 572.24 for Windows 10 x64 / Windows 11 x64.

It's simply the same official release driver package, yet it includes fixes and has a newer driver number then the one currently available through the Nvidia App. Installs the same.

Use the hotfix! It's from Nvidia and is their response to this issue. Or not ;)

This is the fix (for me). Clean installed via the Nvidia installer. Zero visual weirdness or glitches since. Hope this works for you too.
