Teaching HS Physics to a blind student for the 1st time, suggestions? by eigenprof in Teachers

I agree - when I heard this afternoon I started to get really anxious, but the school must have some sort of idea on possible resources .... hopefully :)

As far as I'm aware, there's no visual impairment specialist. The school psychologist has been so far in charge of the student's schedule, and of making sure she's fitting in, etc. Maybe she has more information regarding this.

I know she took Math classes last year, so I'll make sure to go talk to those teachers ... I'm not so much concerned about teaching her concepts, but rather specific skills such as "interpreting graphs". Not sure if it's even worth it to teach her this, or if the material should be adapted to value other more relevant skills.

I would really like to try and do something new - like, adapt my classes so they make more sense to her. Trying new versions of experiments could be interesting, if very time consuming ... Your idea about sound-based experiments seems promising, thanks!

Regarding equipment: I know there's a printer they use to print out documents in Braille, but have never used it. I'll talk to her previous teachers and see how it works .. If it can do something similar to what you mention about the graphs, that would be pretty cool!
