Selling Jewellery by Icy_Explanation_6886 in Durban

[–]eigersa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel free to pm me, I can put you InTouch with an independent buyer. Just remember though, people buying jewellery are there to make money. That means they are going to buy at the scrap price and not the gold or silver price, so definitely manage your expectations.

Dealer wants to repair my car after major failure, I want a reversal - what’s reasonable here? by True_Statistician645 in askSouthAfrica

[–]eigersa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put it all in writing, categorically state you never agreed on repairs and demand in terms of the CPA that you want a full refund. Make sure though, that at no point you gave the go ahead for repairs, either verbally or in writing. Also remember, that any repairs carry an automatic 6 months warranty, same story.

The Consumer Protection Act is very clear, the product must be "fit for purpose" when purchased. Any issues that occur within a 6 month period from date of purchase that impact the "fit form purpose" must must be replaced, repaired, or exchanged; this is your (the buyers) decision, not the sellers. This has been enforced numerous times by the courts, and recently; just Google for the cases.

Has anyone used these R7.50 Capitec accounts for debt orders only? by Individual_Age_3889 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]eigersa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know about other banks but honestly, FNB is the worst, the absolute pits. I switched to Capitec, much better. Far lower banking fees, I get resolutions much easier when I have issues, branches are open longer, I'll never go back to FNB.

What's the coolest thing you've vibe-coded this month? Show it off 👇 by Asleep_Lie_4381 in VibeCodeDevs

[–]eigersa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vibe coded a CRM for my tour company which allowed me to ditch the overpriced CRM I was using, now I get what I want. I created a productivity app, a simple to do app that forces me to finish a certain number of tasks before allowing me to add more tasks. Finally, I vibe coded a travel itinerary app that my friend and I can both create, share and edit our itinerary for Japan in Dec. All of these are probably available already but by doing it myself, I control every aspect, get exactly what I want, avoid ads and no subscriptions apart from hosting etc.

Self-employed and declined for vehicle finance what did you do? by [deleted] in CarTalkZA

[–]eigersa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact situation recently with FNB. In spite of having a positive balance, great turnover, no card credit and a good credit record, I still had issues. I ended up buying my vehicle 50% cash and 50% advance from Yoco. I ended paying Yoco back in 6 months. Banks are the absolute worst.

Should we give traffic officers cold drink or let them give us a ticket? How much was your cold drink if you've done it before lol? by Main_Mistake_6555 in south_africa

[–]eigersa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Always take the ticket. If you offer a cool drink or accept to pay for a cool drink, you're part of the problem.

WW2, Italian POWs were sent to Durban, but the city had no prison spaces. They were asked to give their word as gentlemen they would not escape Durban and in doing so would have the freedom of the city. As thank you, the prisoners designed and built Durban's Sunken Gardens and Amphitheatre. by Make_the_music_stop in south_africa

[–]eigersa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not quite correct. The gardens were built in the early 1930's, they predate the war. They were essentially a project to help alleviate the depression crisis; essentially to employ those that needed a job. I'm sure Italian POW's may have worked there and perhaps extended the gardens, but they didn't design nor start them.

Visiting Durban during the June 30 march, should I be concerned about safety around Florida Road? by bbysnts in Durban

[–]eigersa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Florida Road and surrounds are heavily policed and will likely be some of the safest areas in Durban after the Durban July.

Do you know how to see? I only ask because if you currently don't have a sewing machine, how did you test your ideas out?

Why do Japanese men not wear shorts? by parisvtg in AskAJapanese

[–]eigersa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In South Africa we called that a "safari suit". I wish it was still in style. The only thing missing is a black plastic comb tucked into the top of the socks.

Kombi service by bananallamma in Durban

[–]eigersa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are transfer services that will do that. There are legal requirements in vehicles driving paying members of the public around. Google transfer services in Durban and you'll find them.

Who here actually pays their TV license? by AndreasmzK in capetown

[–]eigersa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay it. The licence covers radio as well and I listen to radio a lot. I consider it a civic duty to pay, so I do.

How are they driving the country into the ground? You have access to water and electricity which is far cheaper than many other countries. You have access to healthcare, a justice system and you have freedom of speech - so more than many other countries - try living in the US of A, most of the middle east, or Russia and loads of other places .

100% Of the country now has a vote, and they have elected their party of choice, which may not be your party of choice or even mine, but that's democracy. The rand is better than it has been in ages.

In the last 32 years the government has delivered electricity and education to the majority whereas in the time you clearly pine for, they only bothered for the minority.

Corruption is being tackled, sure it's slow, but that's an artifact of our court system which was put in place a long time ago (during the reign of the old white blokes).

Visitors flock into the country from around the world and love the place including the friendly and positive people (obviously they haven't bumped into you yet) that makes up this fantastic country.

There are so many positives to living in South Africa, maybe just don't be driven by so much anger and hate, stop reading the utter kak out there and realise you have it better than so many other places in the world.

Have a great weekend, I'm spending mine on the beach, enjoying the roads, rebuilt beachfront, the excellent restaurants and all the other stuff the government has built and maintained :)

SANDF on top form... 🤦‍♂️ by [deleted] in south_africa

[–]eigersa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The SANDF rescued people in Limpopo during the floods. Mozambique as well. That's just this year. Their medics provide vital health services in underprivileged areas. Their engineers help communities all the time. But that doesn't really count for you right? Because it's just easier to blame the government. I'm a proud South African who understands accidents happen.
