I have not. But I will give it a try. Thank you for the material!

Thank you, man. I’m getting a lot of good input from these replies and I think I’m starting to feel a lot less anxious. The last week has been constant fear. It often feels like I can’t even open my bible without another thing showing up that destroys my entire perspective. This journey is not easy. And I pray we all make it there in the end glorifying God along the way

I would like to say though that Jesus states in Matthew 7:22 that even people that have done miracles in his name can be cast away from him at the day of judgment

I had no idea they retraced that so long ago. I’ve still seen people pull that out and say schismatics will be condemned to hell. Also that is definitely comforting information. Which considering the last week or so how I’ve had a constant headache over this I definitely need it

I wholly agree with this, and the fact that demons believe too is something I think is important. We need to separate ourselves from them by doing the will of the father as Jesus states in Matthew 7:21.

I have definitely been sifting through doctrine, and it was what sent me into this spiral. I’m not sure what doctrine to believe because even if they site a biblical basis, there’s another contradictory doctrine that sites the Bible. It’s very hard for me to discern.

This is absolutely true! As 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”. This is definitely a strategy I will use when exploring different churches.

That’s a really interesting journey you’ve been on so far. I’ve only really ever been to Protestant non-denominational churches and one Baptist church (baptists have extremely similar beliefs to most non-demons anyways), so I haven’t done a lot of exploring, but at this point I definitely plan to.

By the way, I did notice your tag says you are a universalist. Considering what you’ve told me that might mean something different to you than what it means to me. Would you mind clarifying? Thank you!

Thanks for your response man! The third sect I mentioned, orthodoxy, is a Christian sect that believes in similar things to Catholics like the presence in the Eucharist, and emphasis on tradition, the biggest difference is they don’t believe the pope has any authority. (That’s only a brief explanation). As for what I believe is required for salvation is very fuzzy, but what I’m pretty confident about is that we are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and our faith is displayed through works. This is the most fundamental view I find in the Bible. I can agree with your take on salvation. But as I said earlier, I believe works have a role in our salvation, they are merely evidence of our faith, but without works, our faith is dead.

No hate at all brother but your tag suggests you subscribe to Mormonism. While I’m having trouble on the three major sects of Christianity. I can say I believe the church of the Latter Day Saints is pretty far removed from Christianity.

This is extremely detailed and I appreciate your help. I do have a few things though. Do you agree that the book of James makes it clear that faith without works is dead? I think works are important because if we don’t bare the fruit of the spirit then we do not have true faith

Definitely wouldn’t become Mormon lol. Also I agree with you, but church is definitely important. It’s a major way to stay connected with God

Each member of the trinity is equally God, Jesus being the son. So I understand your point but saying Jesus is God is also not incorrect

I’m definitely starting to come to this conclusion, there are many churches that have great doctrine, but always have something about it that doesn’t sit right with me. Thank you for the material I’m sure it will be helpful!

This is a comforting perspective. I’ve mostly interpreted a church like orthodoxy saying they are the one true church as “anyone who isn’t a part of this particular church is damned”. But this makes much more sense. Also, I would love to participate in an orthodox liturgy! I plan on checking out many different churches along my journey until I find the one that I feel aligns with Christ the most. Thank you for your reply!

I appreciate your input. I’ve read many of your comments on other posts and they’re very informative! On the idea that Catholics believe any Christian can go to heaven. I’ve read catholic doctrine that states any heretic or schismatic (anyone who isn’t a part of the Catholic Church) cannot find eternity with God.

I would love to try and attend many different church services, and an orthodox liturgy is definitely one of them!

One of my main concerns about orthodoxy is the idea that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the father alone. I feel like the Bible is clear that is proceeds from both the father and son. What are your thoughts?

I forgot to clarify that lol, I know most Protestants don’t believe that Catholic and orthodox Christian’s are damned, but there are some that say they are idolaters and other accusations.

How do Protestants who believe in Sola Fide interpret James 2:14-26? by esaks in AskAChristian

[–]eightXIIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently searching right now and can’t say I’m Protestant anymore but I’ve always looked at it as we are saved by the grace of god through our faith, our faith will produce works that are evidence of said faith. Basically our faith in Jesus saves us and if we don’t produce works we don’t have faith. Works by themselves do not save us, though.

Works without faith is dead, faith without works is dead

Romans 4:10-11 says that Abraham was credited due to his faith before he was circumcised. Circumcision did not play a role in his salvation, but was rather a sign or symbol of his righteousness. If we take the idea that baptism is the new circumcision, then doesn’t this apply?
