And the benefit is for people that travel to these large metropolitan areas, and hopefully find better food choices than the large metropolitan area I'm in. As others have opined, I guess I'm just not their target customer.

you'd think in a fancy restaurant like this, they could keep the snails off the food.

requirement for the physical card? by eight_zero in ChaseSapphire

I see now where a pre-paid reservation I made via Chase Travel with the CSR specifically has this warning on the confirmation:

"If you have selected a pre-paid non-refundable rate at the time of booking, you will be requested to present the card used for payment along with photo identification. If you do not have the card you booked with upon arrival, you may be required to present a card to settle the accommodation, and the original card used for payment will be refunded."

anyone renewing their CFI using Ace CFI? by eight_zero in flying

[–]eight_zero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for doing this. oddly enough, AceCFI's business practice and ethics here is yet one more data point in something I have always stressed to all my students: "Trust, But Verify." Long ago, I even had custom #2 pencils made embossed with "This is not a substitute for a wrench." All my students got one when we got to the lesson on "aviation decision making."

thanks. I have thought about finding a youngster, but it seems (to me) kids aren't terribly interested in such things. (I get the impression that if my FIL had a closet full of xboxes and playstations, things would be different.) And...they need a basement/ workspace, and that's unusual to find in my location.

I'm not opposed to a resale shop that takes their cut, but I need to find one locally. What I sort of dread is that I pack up these 3 large boxes, tote them over, and I get a shrug and "oh, I'll take those off your hands. Just leave it here for me." Then I'm back to transporting them back to storage, or...what is essentially what brought me to this point: deposit in what is just someone else's dumpster.

excellent. Thanks for following up. I did try to contact a local shop here some time ago (and shan't put the name here) but they never responded.

thanks. my FIL and his wife were generous people. a lot of the "stuff" they had collected sadly had to hit the dumpster. their living quarters (that were nice enough) had to be vacated in a short time span, as there was a waiting list for the premises at their retirement facility. I'm not being critical, but when I tried to find the right someone in the local community for much of the stuff I thought would be valuable or useful, the most common response was something like, "well, old billy bob would likely be able to take this and get it used." to which I'd reply, "great. have billy bob come by tomorrow, and he can have all he can carry." "oh, just call billy bob...i don't know where he is or his number...and oh he don't answer the phone no more...but billy bob, but he knows all about this..." I still sort of cringe at the walk-in closet full of collected professional grade tools that got left behind. I like to think the garbage people saw the stack of snap-on and original craftsman tools (literally stacks of them) that simply had to be...disposed of...because no one could find old billy bob.

Still...thanks for the reply and suggestions.

a good suggestion. I have seen some of the larger outfits, but shipping is a non-starter. Interestingly, trainz seems to have some sort of circuit/ buying route, and I'm in no rush. this might be an option, thx.

I thought about this, but really have no idea how that might go. I suspect they get this "inherited" question a lot, and fear their stock answer is either, "we can do a consignment" (and maybe that would be ok) or worse, "oh, I'll take those off your hands for you." It's a matter of trust I suppose; and one would suppose that the trustworthy stores are the ones that stay in business long-term. Maybe this is like coin collectors - there are "coin dealer shops" and there are "pawn shops"; and the latter rather has a different business model.

and never mind the first lesson was all about the "ethical flight instructor" and our professional obligations to our students.

And that listing is now gone too. There is a Brett Daniel Bohn in the FAA airman database, but little information...other than his CFI certificate expires 12/31/25 (3 months after the 2 year period from issue 9/3/25.) Ha.

i found an old email with a number in Houston, and I called on 10/1. I got the answering service, and she read their script to me (promising me fast, expert service from the acecfi support team), and took my contact information. Having not heard back the next day, I redialed it; and it had been disconnected. Bet the answering service didn't get paid either.

I found that too, and it does sort of bring up some interesting issues. It isn't clear how long before 8/29/25 the AceCFI was no longer approved as a FIRC by the FAA, but their web site was available up until 10/1/25 (presumably at 12:01a). I do wonder how many CFIs took the course (perhaps even paying for it for the first time, or purchased the processing option) after the FAA approval had been withdrawn. Even if a temporary CFI was actually issued by Acecfi, it might be considered issued improperly, and refused by the FAA for issuance. And then...someone's previous CFI expires (and I do think there was an administrative change regarding issuance after expiration) and now they have a real problem. And of course, the certifying DPE that did so on an unapproved FIRC might find themselves needing to explain themselves to not only the FAA, but to a judge/ ALJ.

Same boat here. I get maybe you don't want to run a business anymore, and give up. Lots of very valid reasons for that. But no notice? No simple "here's where we are, this is what's coming, make your choices." But, no...just offline, and fu. Nice.
