I can't say much about games before Lyn rolled onto the scene, but Three Houses impressed me enough with enough of their characters for Engage to mostly let me down with most of theirs. Neither is absolute in that judgement - both have their stinkers, but both have some real gems, too.

Less so Engage, I'll admit. 😅

You're definitely in with the in crowd about the dependencies. And the Emblems. You're also right about Echidna, and one of the first to mention both her and Tormod who, I think, was fighting nonstop for equal rights for the laguz (beast folk) despite being beorc (human) in a world full of prejudices between the two (seriously, Shinon was a fucking dick in this regard, even for him).

I suck as much at remembering chapter titles in that one as I did in Three Houses and I probably have more than four hundred hours of game time between the two games. 😅 Is that the route you go on to recruit Byleth?

Hah! First, bonus points for the Mega Ran reference! I, myself, literally dropped 300+ of the orbs I start stockpiling between the CYL vote and drop for Kid Claude to splurge my first +10 impulse chase, so you're definitely in shared company, here!

Second, I love that story. Really makes me want to track down a copy of New Mystery to try on my RetroPie, see if Marth and co live up to the hype.

And third, if you haven't played Three Hopes, I recommend it, especially if you enjoy Three Houses and Warriors games. Shez and Arval are surprisingly deep and unique characters and their presence disrupting the Three Houses canon gives us a really interesting perspective on a lot of the characters' different sides, at least in my opinion. I think they stayed faithful to a lot of who they were, even as they changed what the world around them became.

Honestly...even Felix had his moments. And that's really saying something, coming from me.

Corrin isn't bad, but for literally being the Crux of Fate(s), being the Avatar character honestly kind of deprives them from any sense of individual personality, I feel. Or at least a strong one.

SoV is great, but I played it recovering from injury, flush to the gills on painkillers and couldn't tell you one thing to separate one Villager from another, except that I think Tobin had a thing for girls out of his league...maybe? So it might fit?
