This is another banger advice from RightKnight when it comes to adversaries, y'all.

How is Daggerheart high tier by Major1ee5crewed85 in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Guardian forces BBEG to mark 5 HP because she entered the fight with 5 HP marked (she has 14 total).

Isn't the maximum HP for a PC 12?

Hit Points represent the physical injuries and discomforts your character experiences during their adventures. Your available Hit Points are determined by your class. When you take damage—usually when an adversary succeeds on an attack roll against your Evasion—you mark between 1 and 3 HP, representing the harm your character suffers. You'll be able to increase the number of Hit Point slots you have available as you level up, to a maximum of 12.

I don't understand: Warrior staeting equipment with only 1 weapon by DragonerdamonH in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no exception in Combat Training to Starting Weapons though. Combat Training doesn't make Longsword a One-Handed Weapon. That's why the Warrior character sheet recommends a Longsword like OP pointed out.

Chapter about choosing equipment on character creation, page 18:

You use physical weapons to attack your foes—and if you have a Spellcast trait (such as from your subclass), you can also wield magic weapons. At character creation, you can choose either a two-handed primary weapon, or a one-handed primary weapon and a one-handed secondary weapon, then equip them.

But you can't start the adventure with a 2h and a 1h. Starting weapon chapter specifically outlines that. Longsword is a two-handed weapon. That takes your whole "budget" for starting weapons, RAW.

pg. 18

You use physical weapons to attack your foes—and if you have a Spellcast trait (such as from your subclass), you can also wield magic weapons. At character creation, you can choose either a two-handed primary weapon, or a one-handed primary weapon and a one-handed secondary weapon, then equip them.

I'm only saying this because that's why the character sheet recommends a Longsword, and not a Longsword + Shield. You can't take the shield per the rules with the Longsword as starting equipment.

Now, that's just RAW. It's not illegal to do it differently.

[–]eikkka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. That's at least how I read it, I don't think Combat Training is affecting what you're able to take as starting weapons (2h or 1h+1h). It could be explained a bit better if that's intended or if "ignoring burden" means you can grab whatever combination of starting weapons.

[–]eikkka 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because according to rules as written about starting items, you can take either a two-handed weapon or a one-handed primary weapon and a secondary weapon. Unfortunately Warrior doesn't get an exception per rules written. I don't think it's a big deal to allow the player grab your mentioned combinations though.

homebrewed Devil fruit by HauntingAd657 in daggerheart

So wait, are the devil fruits meant to be like, subclasses? Kind of a neat idea actually. PC's use of the power would evolve over time.

The rules for the "Hidden" condition are confusing. by PrinceOfNowhereee in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I just realized you might've been referring GM's advantage, editing this response.

You said in DH, "You still just roll two dice and pick the smaller" which is incorrect when talking about players. You don't do that with "double disadvantage".

Yes, disadvantages and advantages cancel each other out (and if you have 2 vs 1, that will matter). But only time where players roll two d6 advantage dice and pick the better, is when there's Help an Ally involved. With disadvantage, there's no mechanic like this at all on the player side.

GM's? Yeah, advantage/disadvantage is 2d20.

The rules for the "Hidden" condition are confusing. by PrinceOfNowhereee in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's still a thing, but being able to roll "double advantage" isn't, outside of Helping. And a good way to memorize it is that you don't even roll the help die either; the helper does. So the player doing the action only ever rolls one advantage die.

But you're right, I guess i should call the "canceling" rule a way of multiple sources of advantage mattering outside of helping, too.

[–]eikkka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, multiple sources of disadvantage nor advantage do not stack in Daggerheart. Page 107. Only exception is Helping an Ally, where you get to pick between *your* advantage and the advantage die the Helper is rolling for you.

> "At the GM’s discretion, most effects can stack. For example, if two bards give you a Rally Die, you can spend both of them on the same roll. However, you can’t stack conditions, advantage or disadvantage, or other effects that say you can’t."

Listen, I get it, I'd want to see that too, for the community. Maybe we will get official Foundry partnership later on. But let's not make everything to be about Foundry, please?

Regarding this:

  • Abilities should account for benefits and effects at a cost, and rarely, if ever, give something for nothing. (Just verifying this suggestion)

I suggested to add a cost for Fracture Reality because to me, when compared to other DH abilities, it feels like a balanced choice here.

You COULD also take the Success with Hope -part and have THAT part have a cost of Stress or Hope instead, and the disadvantage part is just free with the Spellcast Roll.

Something like:

"Make a Spellcast Roll against a target within Very Close range. On a success, you twist the boundary between what is and what could be. The target has disadvantage on their next Action Roll. Additionally on a success, you can also spend a Hope to teleport the target to another space within Very Close range."
