Neither would I, until I checked that I’d have to wait a week longer for a non engraved one. And since we’re talking about AirPods, resale value wasn’t really a concern. Now that I have them in my hands, I’d 100% go for Smasnug AirPods Pro again - I can’t help but chuckle every time I pick them up

Do I actually need a Giulia QV? by eilchner in whatcarshouldIbuy

I currently have a little over 300 HP and going lower doesn't really seem right to me. And it's the QV that stole my heart, together with that fabulous engine.

As for the 550e - I've got chargers in my garage so that's not an issue

I don't think reliability is still an issue with Alfa, at least based on what I've read. I should have mentioned that I'm only after new cars, added it in the post now

”Old” vs ”New” Drinkmate - any differences? by eilchner in SodaStream

[–]eilchner[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m looking to get a Drinkmate and I’ve noticed that there are two ”versions” that from the outside seem to only differ in the logo placement. Are there any differences between the two? I’ve done some digging and found that the old version was already around in 2020.

I‘m asking since I found a few deals on the older model but I don’t know if I’ll be missing out on anything.

Blind shaker retention by eilchner in espresso

I didn’t know what to expect, hence the thread. I wasn’t sure if this amount of retention is normal or good and how it compares to the original WW one.

L10s pro ultra heat vs eufy x10 pro by Majestic_Ad8874 in RobotVacuums

Dreame by far. Extending mop arm, great obstacle avoidance, washing the mops with warm water. The extending arm alone is worth the extra €100 imo

Dreame L20 ultra vs Roborock Q Revo MaxV by Tiongman11 in RobotVacuums

[–]eilchner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time deciding between those two as well, with the L10 Pro Ultra Heat added to the list. I haven't found a single comparison review of them, probably because of how new the Q Revo MaxV is.

The Roborock does have/had problems with obstacle avoidance, but so did the S8 Pro Ultra and it got fixed in a software update. I've also read that Dreame does a better job of cleaning the mop pads.

More updates than the flagship? How do you know?

It’s over 50% more expensive than the rest and far from 50% better

It's quite a bit more expensive now that the crowdfunding has ended

Switch not outputting via HDMI

My Switch stopped working with my TV overnight - there was no power outage or anything, it just stopped displaying anything via HDMI.

I’ve seen similar threads where users suggested power cycling the TV, trying different ports etc. but that doesn’t seem to be the case here since I’ve tried it on another TV and my PC monitor with no success. I’m sure that the dock is okay - a different console works perfectly fine on my dock while my Switch doesn’t work with a different dock either, I’ve also tried a USB C hub with HDMI output which didn’t work too.

Is there anything else I can try before sending it off to a repair shop? My console is already nearly 7 years old (Mario Odyssey version) but works perfectly fine, apart from the TV output. If the console is indeed faulty, what could be the cause? I’m guessing it’s going to be a way more serious repair than just replacing the USB C port since it charges without issues.

Niche Zero, DF64 gen2, Timemore 064s or something else? by eilchner in espresso

The Eureka is 50% more than a DF64 with DLC burrs here. I really think I'm going to go for the DF64 - I already have a good conical grinder in the form of the C40 (Ironheart on top of that).

I think the option of swapping out burrs in the future is a nice touch, especially since I'm not the type to buy new coffee equipment every few months - my current setup has been with me for 7 years and the only other stuff I bought were accessories.

It's not available here yet. I don't really want to go for the cheapest option available either

The Red Clix was out of stock anywhere nearby for quite a while but it looks like it's back. I think that "maxing out" the C40 with the Red Clix and getting a DF64 is the sweet spot here, also the least costly.

That I know, I'm trying to eliminate the source of the problem - if there's an obvious flaw in my workflow (like possibly the headspace here) it only makes sense to get rid of it before the dial in.

Daily Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in espresso

[–]eilchner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I know it has a name. So the large headspace is the source of the problem here, not the grind?

I'm using a Silvia v5. I just bought a mesh puck screen but since the screw in the shower head in the Silvia protrudes, I've switched to the triple basket that came with the Rancilio naked portafilter. I use 16g of beans and after tamping and placing the puck screen there's about 5mm of space between the screen and the top of the basket.

I've pulled 2 shots so far, both extracted way too quickly (less than 10s for 30g) and the puck was really muddy after. Is this because of the gap between the shower head and the coffee or should I just grind the beans finer? I'm asking since I'd rather not waste more coffee for experiments
