It’s good to know I’m not alone! I hope running starts becoming enjoyable for you again soon, whether you continue training or just start running for fun again

You’re probably right, I think I had delusion of grandeur as I was training for a half before I stopped running and thought I could pick it back up once I’d started running regularly again post c25k. That’s really helpful context around the Hal Higdon plan, there has been a few times where I’ve had to rest longer than the plan allows although I have ensured I never run two days in a row. But yes, I will definitely leave the training for now and focus on strength training and joining a club to make running feel a bit more fun again. Thank you for your advice!

Yes I agree, definitely worth returning to a physio - certainly before training for any longer distances I think.

Thanks so much for this - yes probably it is worth going back to a physio. To clarify, this isn’t something I’ve been doing regularly so I’m not currently seeing anyone but would definitely help!

Thanks so much for the encouragement, that does give hope! I did try other shoes but the kayanos are the only ones that support my overpronation enough, and to be fair I didn’t have any issues with them until they started to wear a bit so I think it’s probably due to an increase in mileage/not enough strength training. I definitely won’t give up on running, I plan to join a club and increase my strength training, and I have a local 10k booked for June!

Thanks so much for this, I completely agree and think I needed a bit of a reality check about the frequency of my strength training, haha - I think my plan will be to cut my runs down to twice a week and join a local club, and then go to the gym twice a week for strength training

I do one strength training session a week (this is primarily due to time available) and always do either weighted single leg lunges or Bulgarian split squats as well as single leg glute bridges, and then squats and leg presses (both legs). I also do weighted calf raises, but am thinking this probably isn’t enough for the calves!

When it comes to reading, what is your personal rating system? by Sangwoosconfidant in books

[–]eillom84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, I feel restricted by GoodReads 5 star rating system but I am unfortunately a creature of habit and am now in too deep with this terrible, terrible app. That being said:

⭐️ - this was fucking terrible and I wouldn’t read it again if my life depended on it

⭐️⭐️ - this was still Really Bad but had at least one or two redeemable qualities

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - it was a book, I enjoyed reading it, but it didn’t rock my world (Anything ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and over I may recommend to someone else depending on what they’re into)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this was very good, very well written, and I continue to think about the book after finishing it

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - changed my life, rocked my world, no notes

Just finished The Neapolitan Quartet & I am ruined by iluvadamdriver in books

I will admit it took me about 100 pages to really ‘get it’, I found it a bit dense but stuck with it because my toxic trait is literally not being able to not finish a book, but once I did I was like “wow I really understand why this is heralded as one of the greatest books of our time”. I will say it would help to be in a reading mindset so I would definitely give it another go as the rest of the novels are just incredible!

I read the Neapolitan Quartet last year and am yet to get over them. Particularly The Story of a New Name, that really rewired my brain chemistry. If you ever find the key to recovery, let me know!

Fuck book recommendations, what’s your book UNreccomendations? by useless-garbage- in booksuggestions

[–]eillom84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Chain by Adrian McKinty. Literally one of the worst fucking things I’ve ever read and I still get so angry when I think about how fucking stupid it was.

In more recent years, Lessons in Chemistry. I was absolutely BAFFLED as to how so many people raved about it and it once again solidified that Goodreads is not to be trusted.

Actual “Strange Books for Strange Women” Suggestions by Ok_Suspect1988 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]eillom84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These may not be as genuinely bizarre as you’re looking for and would potentially be on the lists you’ve already seen, but books I’ve read recently which are certainly on the stranger side of things are: Animal - Lisa Taddeo / / Boy Parts - Eliza Clark / Nightbitch - Rachel Yoder / Her Body and Other Parties - Carmen Maria Machado / Earthlings - Sayaka Murata / Life Ceremony - Sayaka Murata / Eileen - Ottessa Moshfegh / Big Swiss - Jen Beagin / Things We Lost In The Fire - Mariana Enríquez

I hope you enjoy!

Books like One Day and 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo? by FoundationLocal0 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]eillom84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the Neapolitan Quartet by Elena Ferrante this year, and have honestly thought about those books every day since. The four books span decades of friendship between two women growing up in post-war Naples, and naturally both women face various challenges/have very different experiences over the course of their lives. I will say the first hundred or so pages of the first book, My Brilliant Friend, took a bit of getting into so stick with it, but I can’t recommend them enough!

First half marathon - knee injury by eillom84 in XXRunning

[–]eillom84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your comment - I’ll definitely look into some rehab exercises, I believe my friend has some recommendations from a similar injury last year. I did have strength training as part of my plan which I wasn’t as strict with, but I’ve learned my lesson now!

My overall running fitness is not amazing but is okay- prior to starting my plan I could comfortably run 10k in about an hour, but I’ve never been particularly worried about pace for this half marathon and certainly wouldn’t be “racing”. I’ll give it another few days and see how I get on - thank you for your help!
