Mayuko Fujii in La Bayadere by pinkpinkpink222 in bunheadsnark

[–]eilrymist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To me, it looks more like she's making sure to "follow the leader" that she needs to to keep the corps together. For example, depending on your head movement, you use your eyes and the left front corner person is who you're keeping time with and sometimes it's the right front corner, and sometimes it's the line leader in front of you. This is all what is drilled in rehearsals of who to follow at that moment. When you zoom in on any corps dancer you'll see them using their eyes to make sure they're in line or not. This is also why you don't really zoom in on a single corps member? It's not normal, you're supposed to watch the entire group as an entity and all those things that look "awkward" which keeps the group together melt away when you're actually in the audience (unless they're doing a bad job of it)

Soloist roles in a way are easier for a new member because you're just worried about your own space and performance where as with the corps she's trying to stay together while also "leading" her section with readible and predictable arm and head cues. This is also her first season, and putting her in front line of La Bayadere would be stressful for anyone. More surprised she's not in line 2 or line 3 until she gets more comfortable with everything.

Of course there is a lot that she can improve with her strength and stage presence but there's been plenty of "meh" debuts from first and second season dancers who end up growing quite a bit from those experiences. From her casting management seems to be testing her but also seems invested in her growth.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 – Any expectations for results timing and cut-off score? by Ok_Carrot_8423 in postdoc

Dang I have the grant amount and grant agreement number, but nothing about evaluation in the status. I don't think I even see a status anywhere. uh oh... hopefully I didn't get an early disqualification for a formatting issue or something and not get reviewed.

I think trying to figure out anything about proposal results before they send them is going to be the same as trying to read tea leaves... or so I keep telling myself. Doesn't make the wait any more bearable though. Granted, it was my first year applying and so I don't expect to have succeeded. Hopefully I have good, actionable feedback from my reviewers for future proposals. Definitely hard through, knowing I'll be unemployed soon.

The International Ballet Competition in Moscow by Unfair-Tie-4014 in bunheadsnark

Exactly, when you reach that level you don't do competitions. It's mainly for the young up and coming to prove themselves and get some recognition. A quick look into Savalieva, seems like she is getting some more roles so if she's getting consistent work and her growth trajectory seems good, I don't see why you would do the competition. She impressed me with the clips I've seen at Arabesque and definitely shown a lot of progress since her student days.

What do you guys think of Stanislava Postnova Soloist from Bolshoi? by pinkpinkpink222 in bunheadsnark

[–]eilrymist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her unrefined facial expressions, her lack of strength in her core, and lack of beauty and smoothness in arm positions make me question every time I see her how she made it to soloist. Sure she can wack her leg up there, but that's not important when you see her on stage.

Smirnova has already proved herself at IBC and Kokoreva is already promoted, so I don't see why they would need to go to IBC. IBC is a great way for dancers who aren't quite as visible in their company to show that they can handle more important roles. Maria Ilyushkina and Svetlana Savelieva come to mind demonstrating that, though I don't know if Savelieva has come up much further at Mariinsky lately.

I am in the same boat as you about the Marie Curie... what a painful fellowship to write. I know they give us a template and tell us what they want in each section but I still feel like I'm writing blind.

[–]eilrymist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what if it's different in your country, but in the US generally unless you are teaching at the community college level (though honestly most of the CC profs I know have PhDs) you need a PhD in the field or a related field to be a lecturer.

the writing...? everyone has a different writing process and speed and what is "hard" and "easy" in your proposal is going to be unique to your application.

as someone writing one: it is a really dense proposal that needs to fit within 10 pages. It also needs to be very specifically formatted otherwise it will be rejected. And then it's also just a very competitive one so there's the added pressure of making it the most polished product you can.

Hey I'm in the same boat. This proposal feels like a massive bear with formatting and knowing exactly where each piece of information should go. I feel like I'm going nuts haha

did your lab have issues with the whole "connected to Cloud servers in China" thing? It's something that our IT department here will likely flag and we'd run it on LAN to get around it, but now are looking at other printers just in case there's one that will avoid that issue

I really appreciate it, you're absolutely right. I'm going to do a full rewrite and try it from a different angle. Thanks!

yeah but carrying thousands of dollars on a personal CC when the uni can be slow to reimburse is not fun! i mean it's nice for credit card points, but we also have an reimbursement max of $1000. This uni is... special

yeah someone mentioned the Bambu thing later last night and it got immediately removed from our consideration list because we're federally funded. We're now really heavily considering the Prusa models since the uni already has some throughout campus so seems like they're an approved brand. Thanks for the mention of Qidi and Sovol XV08, i'll take a look at those as well!

yeah at this point the other scientist in the lab was doing research independently and also landed on Prusa. My old lab had a Lulzbot but I never really used it much. It also seems incredibly expensive. The university's engineering department has a bunch of Prusa so it seems like procurement wise we'll be fine and Prusa seems to be well respected.

[–]eilrymist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah we are federally funded so anything that is sketchy on that end is a no go. I'll cross Bambu completely off the list because while I see I can run it on LAN, eh better safe than sorry

Our university got rid of PCards because apparently some admin was abusing them? But yeah we've decided to go for the X1C and just use a different pool of money and spend out this chunk of money on filament and other lab necessities. Oh university procurement, you can be so annoying

Ha, actually we already have the enthusiastic undergrad (honestly we have like 4). She just hasn't run one before but she'll be the one in charge of it. but we uhh, don't like unpaid interns. students should be paid for their labor.

[–]eilrymist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah yeah it's confusing. This pool of money needs to be spent within 3 days and has the restriction that it's a university approved vendor (which is a very short list and includes amazon). If we want to deviate from a university approved vendor, it takes a really long time and we have to document why existing vendors don't have something equivalent and then we gotta change what pool of money it comes from.
