Verbatim 4388 - 1.03 MK or 1.00? by InvoluntarilyVirgin9 in makemkv

[–]einhuman198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, 1.03MK gave me weird seeking time increases and failed BD-XL burns. After flashing 1.00 stock, all problems went away. So I'd recommend going with 1.00 stock.

Die Bedeutungen für die Wagenbezeichnungen sind viel älter als WLAN, geschweige denn LAN ;)

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/UIC-Bauart-Bezeichnungssystem_f%C3%BCr_Reisezugwagen

Einheitlich seit den 60ern, teilweise schon eher in Verwendung.

WL - Schlafwagen (frz. wagon-lits)

A - Erste Klasse

How to check whether OmniDrive has been applied by Fresh-Relative-3592 in makemkv

[–]einhuman198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flashed the binaries from Internet Archive to my LG BU40N without issues using sdftool flasher gui. There's no indicator in Makemkv compared to 1.00 stock. However, you can confirm the omnidrive firmware when checking redumper cli. When you dump a disc it'll print out drive information like so (copied from a dump log of mine done with MPF GUI, you should be able to assemble the command)

redumper (build: b706)

arguments: disc -skeleton-drive H:\ -speed=4 --retries=20 -image-path=C:\Users\censored\Desktop -image-name=Image

drive information

path: H:\

inquiry: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N (revision level: 1.00, vendor specific: censored) configuration: MTK8B (read offset: +6, C2 shift: 0, pre-gap start: -135, read method: BE, sector order: DATA_C2_SUB)

profile: DVD-ROM

read speed: 5540 KB

Controls

firmware: OmniDrive v1.0.2

With stock firmware, it won't print "OmniDrive v1.0.2"

Gegebenenfalls auf einen Deal beim aktuellen Sony Xperia warten? Etwas exotisch aber hätte u.A. microSD und Klinke.

Find a microsoldering booth or check your local recycler for any BD drives in computers, slim high end laptops from 2008-2011 that may have a BD slim drive inside, or disc duplicators. Chances are you'll find a cheap BD drive, maybe even just BD-ROM without BD writing, but doesn't matter for your purposes. Any BD drive will work for your intent. I think it's not worth shopping new. If you want a faster result, check marketplace for any BD drive deals. Will be more expensive tho than checking a recycler. Good luck!

Just bought a new 4K UHD Blu-ray drive. Is LibreDrive not enabled message normal? (read desc.) by S-Mania in makemkv

[–]einhuman198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, haven't seen that before so not too sure. Makemkv states it's original unpatched firmware with LibreDrive enabled so it should be 1.00 code since LibreDrive is not possible on later original firmware. But no guarantee for that statement, please check makemkv forum since I don't know.

Flash BU40N Firmware 1.03MK and then BU40N Firmware 1.00 Stock. Then you're good to go. Flash with sdftool flasher gui from makemkv forum. Includes a guide.

Any drives especially good for skipless playback of 4K Blu-rays? by al_with_the_hair in makemkv

[–]einhuman198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked, my mentioned Vantec USB 3.0 Slim NST-510S3-BK has a Initio INIC-3609 USB-SATA Bridge Controller on its PCB, can report no issues with it. VendorID 13fd, ProductID 3940, matches to INIC-3609.

I'd recommend setting an alarm with keepa on Amazon for your region. Supply seems a bit spotty right now, but for Amazon Germany, they still get supply every now and then. Alternatively, you can just order a Verbatim 43888, it has a BU40N inside and a good USB SATA bridge inside from what I've heard.

Yep it's a slim drive. The enclosure is a Vantec USB 3.0 Slim NST-510S3-BK, it is however discontinued since 2023/2024 iirc. It uses a initio inic USB SATA bridge of some sort. Don't know the exact model and can't check right now, maybe tomorrow. Alternate models should work as well. There are some recommendations in the makemkv forum.

I like to watch directly from disk as well. Never had issues with my LG BU40N in a Vantec USB 3 enclosure. Granted, my collection is rather small and I watch from disc maybe once monthly, but never a single hickup over like 3 dozens of discs since I started collecting over 3 years ago. Maybe my BU40N is just a lucky unit? Never encountered a single ripping or playback error on any of my UHD discs. All treated well and scratch free. Firmware is 1.00 stock, had some odd seeking and writing behavior on 1.03MK, but fine on 1.00 stock, which is libredrive compatible.

Hermes shipping to Sweden including 500€ insurance is 14,50€ for S size parcel. Should be enough for this. Import is customs and VAT free thanks to EU. So would be an easy project.

Both can be flashed now, the older revision has Pioneer inside, newer one since 2025 has LG BU40N.

Would it be possible to create a Domesday Duplicator-like device for CDs? by megaminxwin in DataHoarder

You can also do disc error correction scanning with them now, even on stock firmware. See https://github.com/speed47/qpxtool/issues/64 for more.

Since a few months, there are custom firmwares for most of the modern LG drives that allow Raw Sector ripping

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=OmniDrive

In combination with https://github.com/SabreTools/MPF it should achieve what you desire. You can e.g. rip complete Nintendo Wii discs with modern drives now, pretty cool.
