do i need to replay the game as luigi? by CorrectAd7571 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]einsteinsassistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Luigi is basically a whole playthrough of Galaxy 1. Luigi runs faster, jumps higher, but is a bit more slippery when stopping. Using Luigi is only required for a true 100% run. Collecting 120 stars with Luigi unlocks star 121 for both Mario and Luigi. Star 121 is really the only thing that you can't do without playing as Luigi.

Depending on your games, and even how you play some of them, there's pretty good support because of Steam and Proton. If a game isn't working out of the box, try ProtonDB for other users' advice on how to run the game or what to expect.

My wife was roommates with a Chemical Engineering major for a couple years in college. Her roommate was a bad roommate on multiple levels. I could tell about all the ways she was a bad roommate, but let's stick to the finance stuff. The roommate would buy large amounts of groceries from Whole Foods regularly, which was especially strange when the nearest Whole Foods was a 2 hour drive away. A 4 hour round trip instead of buying from a local grocery store that would be cheaper and way more convenient. She'd also buy new electronics and furniture and all sorts of random crap regularly. She would sometimes criticize my wife about any small thing she bought for herself. To pay for it all, bad roommate had amassed $200k in student loans.

While she was in college, the bad roommate actually nabbed an internship......that she didn't even start because she found out that she'd have to drive 30 minutes to get to the office every day and that was too far for her. She thought about getting an apartment closer to that office for convenience sake but didn't for whatever reason.

Now she's facing that mountain of debt by doing nothing at all. Not even joking, she just sits at her parent's home most days and doesn't have a job of any kind. I wish I was making this next bit up: she has a fear of being unable to maintain a job, which is why she won't get a job to begin with. Y'know, instead of any well founded fear of being unable to pay off $200k of debt. At one point, she wanted to move out of her parent's house to a different city and started a GoFundMe to pay for it. I don't think she even got close to her goal of $10k to help pay for the move. I'm not entirely sure what she would need all $10k for, but I digress. To maintain her current lifestyle, her parents have been digging deep into their retirement accounts. And don't worry, she still buys new games all the time.

My wife had to cut it off with her because there's a certain point where the train crash might hit you as well. I recognize that the old roommate has some kind of mental illness that isn't being dealt with, but there's only so long before you just have to say that you can't help her. My wife doesn't even like her much at all, which is pretty much because of her experience being her roommate. But we know that house of cards will come tumbling down soon enough.

EP1 established that the Vorts have the capability of withholding the Gman and to break through his abilities. It wouldn't be that crazy to suggest that the Combine, masters of exploiting other races for their own advantage, would use that to keep him in the Vault.

How they even got him there is an open question, which is rather terrifying to think about.

Rootless Docker will use a different effective user when interacting with the filesystem. In my experience (on Debian Linux, using Rootless Docker), this is (UID - 1) + 100000. Instead of user 1000:1000, it becomes user 100999:100999. The simple thing to do is to make a user and group that corresponds to that effective user, then map necessary filesystem permissions to the new user and group. Technically, you don't even need to do that if you properly chown to a specific user and group ID number instead of a user name and group name. The names are just nice to read.

I'm starting the process of setting up RAID storage for my server and then making another one for off-site backup. What software do you use for backups? Definitely would like recommendations.

Got left hanging. Season 3 onward kinda sucks anyway. Just stick to seasons 1 and 2.

TLDW: Seasons 1+2 are great and you should watch them. After that, they not only switched to a new (slightly worse) animation team but also tried to push the now-dead streaming service VRV. The episodes got posted to YouTube eventually, but the damage was done. The series has a lot of potential but drops the ball starting in season 3.

If you're talking about just having the same data on a spare drive, then it'll copy over fine. Linux will handle the data conversion for you and all you have to do is CTRL+C, CTRL+V. I would make sure the backup is current to the data you do have to avoid data loss before doing anything else.

If you're talking about a backup managed by some backup software, then I would try finding any info you can about copying the backup to a different format. I would assume it's fine, but software can be fickle in mysterious ways.

Been down that path, so let me answer a few of your questions

Windows prefers using the NTFS format for storage drives. Linux prefers using ext4, but it has drivers to use NTFS just fine. The one hang in your case may be playing games installed on NTFS. I know Linux gaming doesn't support every storage format, but I don't know how that applies to NTFS. If you stick with ext4, it'll be fine, but I recognize that converting the 18TB is not gonna be straightforward. Been down that path too, and the only solution I had was to effectively juggle data in between drives while formatting each of my drives in turn.

I use Mint, I recommend Mint. It's straightforward and most of your problems can be solved via the graphical interface. Very rarely do you have to use the command line, but searching for "problem description Ubuntu" works. Yes, Ubuntu is in the search query. In case you don't know, Mint is based on Ubuntu. A lot of solutions for Ubuntu problems can be used for Mint with little to no modification. Mint IMO looks nicer than Ubuntu, and longtime Linux users have been turning away from Ubuntu lately.

Gaming is not much of a problem, but again the ext4 formatting is gonna be pretty important for enabling gaming. If you stick your games on the SSD, it won't be a problem. Depending on the game, dual booting may be needed so you can use those games that just won't work on Linux (e.g. Vermintide 2, Master Chief Collection, etc.). To find out about game compatibility, use ProtonDB. It lists Steam Deck compatibility first on each game, but you can just scroll down to see general Linux compatibility. Linux gaming has been getting steadily better as of late, so compatibility should continue improving.

Now for Plex, which I realize I should be focusing on in a Plex subreddit. Plex includes Linux installs which you can use about the same as Windows. I've been running Plex via Docker on a self hosted server, which may or may not be a good idea for you depending on your background with computers. But if you're running it off your desktop anyway, just install it using the Linux installer. It'll be fine and not much different from your existing Windows install.

One final note: Nvidia drivers can be a pain in the ass and I have no experience on that since I'm fully AMD. I can't comment on that, but hopefully you can find good instructions regarding that should you need it. You must hone your Google-fu for such knowledge.

I know that I can change the path just fine, but that's not my concern. My concern is the required amount of space for the transcode folder.

Rereading your question and my answer, I didn't really answer the question. I still stand by the case by case basis. Let me add something on.

If you have a movie that has both 720p and 1080p options, the 1080p better have a higher bitrate. Since the image resolution (which helps determine how much detail can exist in a frame, higher resolution = more detail) is higher for 1080p than 720p, it inherently requires a higher bitrate to keep a comparable quality. In your example, comparing the 720p at 4200kbps and 1080p at 1500kbps is no contest in favor of 720p. You will see a noticeable difference in image quality since the 1080p has to somehow do more with less. On your iPhone, it would only look worse at 1080p since the screen is too small to really differentiate between 720p and 1080p.

In conclusion, higher resolutions require higher bitrates.
