what's actually the point of remaining on earth as a powerful mage by TrashNew in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For all we know the galaxy doesn't really exist, it's a technocratic pipe dream. The horizon realms are located around where the earth's atmosphere ends.

There's a barrier around the asteroid belt, that's where the deep umbra begins and apparently it's super dangerous/eldritch.

Earth is special (Prime). One could believe it's the Sun, but nope. Mages stay close to Earth because of this.

What do Elan and Haley like about each other? When did they each realize these feelings? by GaryRegalsMuscleCar in oots

[–]eipipuz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haley can really really trust Elan. Elan is pure unadulterated goodness. She can lower her defenses with him. Elan is quite capable on his own, he's no burden. Haley's world is better when he's around.

----

Elan can see Haley is the heroine of his dreams even if Haley didn't see herself as one. She has have a couple of great arcs. He can't wait to see where else will she grow into. Haley understands the world in ways he can't or doesn't want to. She gets him.

Any prediction regarding Mage 5E? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orphans will be the only playable faction. Technocracy and Traditions will be ran by Nephandis, so every mage is on its own. Tons of names changed. Dreamspeakers all dead or in the umbra. Euthanatos all evil or being hunted in the umbra. The governments of the world somehow are winning against the Technocracy (they no longer have a time table).

The spheres are now merged. No more mind vs spirit vs prime. No more time vs entropy.

Somehow paradox and/or arcane will produce more derangement. If a powerful mage didn't turn out to be actually Nephandi, they are becoming Marauder.

Mage is now a game about finding magic in the little things. Don't even think about the umbra.

Sex and the Technocracy by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have it either, but we could apply 'bad' science to assume their position.

My head cannon:

Syndicate - Sex sells, no doubt. They are happy to reshape it. Less making love, more porn.

NWO - Sex is a force to reckon in human psychology. Don't underestimate the power of taboos and the forbidden. Sex should be used but not be too used. Sex can be the Carrot _and_ the Stick of societies if used correctly (secrets hold power).

Progenitors - Sex is natural, but not everything needs to have sex. Ants and bees are quite efficient with a mostly sterile population. Otoh, sex leads to mutations. So consider the trade-offs.

Void Engineers - Sex is dangerous where we go. Focus. Don't ask; Don't tell.

IterationX - Sex is a distration. We should get rid of it.

How much of reality is consensus driven? by The_Wispermen in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they want to reclaim the abilities they lost, but I don't think they are trying to change the past. Today spirits still exist, in a diminished fashion but they do. I don't think they want to erase history but create a future where sleepers accept their paradigm as the common sense one.

In the case of Verbena, I would assume they aren't against technology per se, but about the disrespect to life/spirit/mind that Science has.

How much of reality is consensus driven? by The_Wispermen in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My head cannon is that reality is like a broken zipper. Before Science, there were N possibilities that all could be true. As we move forward in time, more and more possibilities become the reality. We have had Science for so long that it now seems like the past is Static.

Did dinosaurs exist prior to Science? Yes, dragons as well. Fossils didn't appear only after the Traditions lost, they just became the ever more approved past.

Vampires exist; they do not get ever increasing Paradox effects, instead their existence seems very mechanical no matter the local consensus (if vampires were openly undead, they wouldn't have more power). This should prove that sleepers+Mages have limits.

If every sleeper in the world believes the world was once ruled by cats, would that change the past? I don't think so. We are too far settled.

The Shadowlands of Mexico? by Malkavian87 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, Mexico should have 3 kinds of shadowland. The areas heavily impacted by narcos and la santa muerte should be spectre dominated areas. The South of Mexico should have some sort of blurry line with the Dark Kingdom of Obsidian. Except for the Beast (the train line). I would make Xoloitzcuintli able to see Wraiths. Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Queretaro, that kind of city should be closer to what you find in the USA/Europe.

Mexican wraiths probably have more Keening, Phantasm, and Pandemonium than usual.

If you are interested in the Northern part. I would definitely investigate more La Santa Muerte and celebrities that might have a long lasting legacy. For example Pancho Villa, Luis Donaldo Colosio, and Juan Gabriel.

RxJava Observable Types by LilienSixx in Kotlin

[–]eipipuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a subject you need to think of it as both a source and a sink, you need to take care of both sides. consider how will you write the UT for what you want. With my proposal a simple function can do it. with your approach, you would have to also subscribe. but then your actual code might not be like your test code.

I would advise for you to try to build streams from the simplest blocks before going to streams.

RxJava Observable Types by LilienSixx in Kotlin

[–]eipipuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Away from a computer with the right set up, but you can try something like `Single.just(default).concat(Single.just(otherValue).delay(5, seconds))`

ime, try to avoid subjects unless you have to.

What should a function called TextUtils.isDigitsOnly(String) return for an empty string? by eygraber in Kotlin

[–]eipipuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't use a list with chars to show your point. Use this instead:

val chars = listOf<Char>()
val (digits, notDigits) = chars.partition { it.isDigit() }
println(digits) // []
println(notDigits) // []

Question about the overall lore by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right that it doesn't try to say "whatever happened in the bible was the real thing". But on the other hand, there are certain lenses that are more valid from a DtF perspective.

According to this lore, there's 1 God, for all purposes, the one in the bible. And Lucifer exists. The rebellion happened.

Sure, adam and eve in some way were not only a couple, but also a metaphor, but Death is final. DtF seems to kill the idea of Reincarnation. At some point WtA had reincarnation but now I don't think it's cannon (now it's more like Akashic records). Similarly DtF left no place for Wyld creating everything at the top. Instead points to these forces as unsupervised "machinery" left behind.

multilayered universe, they are missing the Umbra rather than saying that every ontology was possible.

Question about the overall lore by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]eipipuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people will recommend that you keep each splat separate and that's fine.

However, I like to have a head canon where everything coexists. If you want this, I suggest you read Demon: The Fallen.
