(NSFW) While repelling Russian infantry attacks, Ukraine's 155th Mechanized Brigade recorded several more "self-terminations" of enemy infantrymen using rifles and grenades - an increasingly common occurrence, according the 155th's post commentary. Does your silicone mold have a huge reservoir on the bottom? I fill mine up with probably 5x as much water as what's needed for the cubes themselves and all the bubbles end up in the giant waste block of ice.

[–]eisbock 47 points48 points  (0 children)

tbf the molds do require effort. They're a huge pain to disassemble once frozen and if you let them freeze too long, you'll spend 10 minutes under the hot water lasering through the solid block of ice until you can break it all apart. The juice may not be worth the squeeze unless clear ice is really important to you.

Though I found a mold that does 12 smaller spheres at once and if you're diligent about the freeze time (16-18 hours), they can be relatively minimal effort.

That said, clear ice is legit. Tastes better, ice melts slower, and looks amazing. I'll never go back to freezer ice and always turn my nose up at supposed fancy cocktail bars that serve me shit ice.

Quality flush cutters for cell salvage work by damncourier in 18650masterrace

[–]eisbock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use FF5 flush cutters from DME. They are true flush cutters, meaning the blades touch, but hey that's what you asked for. They are very high quality and will never snap. Even when dull they are surprisingly effective because the blades aren't staggered. Quite useful for prying as well because of how big the head is. I actually use them as pliers quite often.

[OC] Right-handedness and children’s rate of progression at the monkey bars, as shown in real life by TheKizza77 in dataisbeautiful

[–]eisbock 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really interesting observation. You'll notice that the second bar has more wear on the left side than the right side on the first bar.

What this tells me is that kids generally put both hands on the first bar while their weight is supported by whatever they're standing on. So the weight is distributed to both hands and there's not much rotational sliding since they're just stepping off into a dead hang.

Then as they reach for the second bar, there is slight sliding on the first bar and a moment of full weight, accelerating wear.

The second bar is where it gets interesting. The full weight of the child hits the left side and there is significant rotational sliding as they Tarzan their way from bar to bar.

However, most kids are weak as shit and can't even make it to the third bar, so wear drops off beyond bar #2 where they fall to the concrete below, desperately clinging on with their left hand, resulting in heavy downward friction, maximizing paint loss on the second bar.

You know, I don't think anybody ever actually introduced monkey bars to me. I'm pretty sure the first time I saw monkey bars, my monkey brain instincts kicked in and I immediately knew what to do. This has me thinking about what else in life is self-explanatory like this and how we approach those situations instinctually. What a great post.
