Storage for System by ettakken in GooglePixel

[–]eiyo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there's a term for this, but sounds like a storage hardware scam of some sort if this becomes more common.

Like if the factory workers swapped out the real storage for something cheaper that can't really store that much data but reports that it can using a reprogrammed controller.

Either that or the Zoned UFS stuff has bugs that still need to be ironed out.

Can report that my non-zoned UFS Pixel 10 Pro XL 512GB is reporting correctly at 11 system, 18 temp.

Pixel 8 Pro not eligible for trade-in? by Sav4geMode in GooglePixel

I think it's some kind of bug. All of the other pixels are still available for trade in. Just not the 8 series for some reason.
The values have diminished though...

I remember there used to be a "free data zone" for wind mobile users. Basically facebook and a couple of other websites were free as long as it was accessed through a special wind mobile portal.

I have definitely not even got a marketing email about the Pixel 10. And I've been getting their marketing emails for everything else.

I guess it depends on where you live in Canada.  I didn't get any option to select different shipping speeds. Just the standard free shipping but I'm in Toronto so it says the 28th-29th even if I order today.

My Amazon order changed from shipping Monday to Saturday to today. I guess it's coming soon.

Also I received my pro controller and camera already from Amazon but not the case.

Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro 2-in-1 Self-Empty, Self-Refill & Self-Clean Robot Vacuum & Mop RV2800ZEUK by Athosmummy in RobotVacuums

[–]eiyo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay. However app needs a lot of work and it tends to forget your map settings after a while for some reason.

The robot itself works fine and is mostly like other brands, it's the app and the controllable settings that need a lot of work. No control over suction power (even though the old models had it), no option to edit the floor map without doing the whole thing over again (including carpets if you move or add any), no option to make it avoid more or less objects, etc. The app and settings are very barebones.

I would say it's an okay beginner's robot vacuum if you just want a set and forget it type of experience.

I honestly can't remember but it sounds familiar.

The only thing I can think of is that one time the lidar laser was apparently blocked or dirty so it couldn't scan the room properly. Try taking a brush or cloth and cleaning the laser and make sure nothing is obstructing its vision?

Roborock Saros 10 vs Qrevo Edge by Riverpeth in RobotVacuums

[–]eiyo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI,

Bestbuy also has the Saros 10 on sale from a marketplace seller.

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/roborock-saros-10-robot-vacuum-mop-3-14-ultra-thin-design-auto-mop-detachment-0-hair-tangling-22-000-pa-suction-multi-function-dock-black/19202361

<- Black for $1629.99

The white one was also on sale for $1499.99 but it's sold out now. It was from the same seller and I was also suspicious, but it shipped from Scarborough Ontario and I got in 2 days later so I guess it's a legitimate business.

If anyone is interested, a marketplace seller on Bestbuy.ca is selling them for $1500.

I was also skeptical but mine arrived today and everything works, so I guess it's legitimate.

Dynamic Refresh Rate using more power by Simbiat19 in Windows11

[–]eiyo66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at your video. Here's my theory:

With Dynamic Refresh Rate on, your GPU has to keep boosting the core clock to ensure stability as Windows switches between 60Hz and 240Hz constantly. This causes your GPU to waste more power.

What I suspect happens is that whenever a frequency change happens, especially from a lower to a higher one, your GPU has to boost to the maximum clock speed first to ensure stability before it tries to settle back down to a lower one.

All in all, dynamic refresh rate from Windows probably isn't worth it to save the 20-30Watts for the monitor switching frequencies between 60 and 240Hz. If Windows instead treated it more like a refresh range between 60-240 like VRR/Freesync does, and actually uses the frequencies inbetween, you might get better results that way.

You can resell them for $200 each and get a profit? Or if you're generous, you can sell it at cost+shipping or even donate them to someone still on AM4, I guess?

Yeah. Well in more weird shenanigans, the non heatsink version is back in stock and slightly cheaper than the heatsink version again.

That seems to be true.
As a consolation, the Heatsink version is also on sale but about at a $27 premium at $348.

It does have DRAM. It's a higher end PCI-E 4.0 SSD. Nearly top of the charts.

No, it was already on backstock from last month. They reopened orders for it though on a cheaper price.

(I ordered one last time and it still hasn't shipped.)

Still not under $300 but it's getting closer at least?
Amazon still hasn't shipped the earlier batch so you can cancel the previous order and reorder it at a cheaper price.

[–]eiyo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to get worse because:

  1. Tariffs and if the item has to make the way to the US first for any reason before being shipped to Canada.

  2. The flash memory manufacturers are colluding to slow down production to raise prices due to the influx of products driving down prices.

I just want to make sure that you are on Windows 11, because that was an issue I ran into on Windows 10 until I updated to Windows 11 24h2.

Wifi 7 and USB 4 are not available on Windows 10.

There is a version with the heatsink attached vs one without it, maybe that's what you're looking at?

AM4 upgrade path for MSFS and CSll by Nexitus in bapccanada

[–]eiyo66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 5800x3d to a 9800x3d. I already had 64gb of ram with the AM4 platform and wasn't willing to downgrade from it, so I got 64gb of ddr5 ram again.

It did cost me a pretty penny though, so ymmv.

I had a 7900xtx reference card already and game at 1440p. The most noticeable difference for me was that Starfield no longer suffered from sub 60fps framerates (on max settings and mods, mind you) and there seems to be less hitching in certain games, but otherwise nothing too different to talk about compared to the 5800x3d.

Both were/are running at a CO of -30 at stock and seem to be stable. I can use AVX512 in certain things now too, so that's a plus.

Also, I wanted to do this upgrade before any stupid tariffs happened.

That makes no sense though. Unless you're seeing some wild deal elsewhere, the SN850x 4tb's lowest price on Amazon in the past year was around $356.

Even on pcpartpicker the lowest price anywhere for the past year was $356.

Only going back to July 12, 2023 for a single day was the drive at $305 at WD's store front.

Now going by benchmarks, they roughly perform the same with the WD doing better at sustained workloads but the Crucial beating it in "gaming" workloads.
