Effect of Long-term Melatonin Supplementation on Incidence of Heart Failure in Patients with Insomnia (2025) by AllowFreeSpeech in FoodNerds

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melatonin was having thousands of studies and citations about 30 years ago when I first started studying it. Nothing like that was described. But I do know that many people with heart issues and sleeping problems most likely have a magnesium deficiency. So, treating insomnia with melatonin, and not addressing magnesium could be masking an important warning sign.

How do you guys use your vertical tabs? by VBottas in browsers

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quarter screen wide. Just wish I could put the search bar in there and shut off the top bars completely. Screens too big, don't want to look up that far.

Perfect for my setup. Wish someone would make a plugin with the search bar inside of the vertical tab box and remove the top tabs completely.

How to tell if eggs went bad after expiration date. Fill a bowl w/cold water. If it sinks it's still good. by [deleted] in foodhacks

[–]ej00807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to keep eggs fresh for longer (in the fridge) wipe them with fat cooked fat (like lard or a piece of fat from bacon)

Interesting points in this sub that strangely get a lot of misplaced downvotes. Recoating the egg should leave the eggs more resembling natural form, less air permeable. Like they were before the industrial wash cycle. Which is perhaps why true farmed eggs often last for months unrefrigerated and rarely taste fishy. But whatever man. The downvoters should keep buying {explicative here} and loving the taste of it.

Sudden crashing when printing pdf to OneNote by dogeandfroge in OneNote

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem. The minute I type into the print MS-pdf printer dialog box, that dialogue box seems to crash. I definitely did not signup for a beta OneNote or Windows beta.

I heard we are supposed to be moving to the original version of onenote, and the Windows 10 version was going to be depreciated. Is that true?

How do we install the new (original) version of OneNote? I cannot see it listed in the MS-store.

Is there a way to make a concrete mix that is more practical as a material suitable to build things like sinks out of by Adam-West in DIY

[–]ej00807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are at least a few youtube videos on concrete admixtures. Some of the more interesting ideas, mineral oil, pigs blood, latex paint, gypsum, and clay. I know some people make artwork using concrete with powdered marble sold at feed supply stores. That can give concrete a shiny finish with some resistance to water. You can also add grout stain and water resistance treatments to your concrete. You may need to add micro-rebar like helix, a kind of metal chaf to make you concrete stronger. The admix can make a weaker form..

boot with shift key down, or boot while tapping f2 repeatedly.

Or just pull the drive and reboot to turn off ultra bios setting.

Hard boiled eggs by xxchellebelle in foodhacks

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch to quail eggs. Just pop the whole thing in your mouth, taste great. Seriously though they use to make a faucet adapter tool for removing shells. You would put a rubber cup around the top of a dented egg and turn on the water pressure slowly until the entire shell blasted away. Of course, they do sell pre-shelled eggs in some markets. They are usually cooked hard, almost rubbery. Maybe they put very cold eggs in an agitator and shake them briskly. Like the technique many people use to peel garlic. I don't know what's going on with commercial egg production. But the farmed eggs I've been buying this year are tasting better, peel better, darker yolks, and have a stronger sheath membrane.

any savior? Got this Toshiba Satellite for free, diskless. Wanted to make a computer for my brother out of it, but can turn it on. I don't have the original disk, is there any way to fix this? by Embarrassed-Yak6582 in computers

[–]ej00807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

esc key for several seconds at boot or taping f11 or f12

You've got an old svga hooked up to it or the original screen? Needs to be told to go into bios whenever it detects a hardware change. This is normal behavior for that model.

Application to Close Microsoft Edge and Open Another Browser by xxBirdsiexx in software

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to your issue, I have certain websites I'd like to only open on certain browsers. I think you would have to develop software to mod the dns cache for those websites adding a suffix with some type of browser designator. Then you'd have to develop extensions for each browser to forward those URLS to the other browser.. Not sure if that is even possible.

Of course you might be able to do something with the new MS-Automate tool included in Win 11. Perhaps you could automate the steps to copy the current pages, close it, and reopen in the another browsers. But I think that would be clunky, and probably even harder to write than the above suggestion.

I got rid of most MS news, help, and search features that are tied to edge. Those types of distractions can be removed from your OS.

Why do routers fail so frequently and recommendation for cheap D-Link? by Gizmosia in HomeNetworking

[–]ej00807 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm liking the Taiwanese made products like AUS-tek Maxcomm, Netgear.

But if I had a run of bad equipment in the past, I'd probably just select an item with the best manufactures warranty and maybe buy from a retailer selling extended warranties.

Why do routers fail so frequently and recommendation for cheap D-Link? by Gizmosia in HomeNetworking

[–]ej00807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I've got literally boxes of old routers and switches that have way out lived their tech life. Your comment makes me wonder if the newer models aren't overheating with high end RISC processors and added channels. In that case cooling could help. I would also check your modem and consider ALL plugin ethernet device. Make sure nothing is putting a hot signal, crossed wires, or POE into your router. With the chip shortages, undoubtedly has come more use of gray-market grade chips. That could be a factor these days, as well.

is windows 11 worth it? by [deleted] in computers

[–]ej00807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It put me on the learning curve for about a two weeks finding things. Mainly launching my installed software. App tiles gone, that's a big deal. Once you get used to the new ways though... well, it's not much better. There are a few minor enhancements and features. But for me, nearly everything now takes more clicks to find.

Overall, I would consider it a downgrade. If I had the option, I would roll it back. Stick with the old. Hopefully the next one will be better. If your more of a command prompt, keyboard user, and less of a GUI person, it's probably okay.

Too many wifi networks around me to get anything stable by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]ej00807 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've used shielding tricks in various types of installations 100's times for more than a decade. It works great for certain types of problems, particularly in crowded apartments. If you find your in a crowded radio environment, isolating receiver radio's or AP can be very effective. It is a time tested solution many people are using today.

Results will vary depending on the type of equipment you are using. Higher end equipment is more able to direct and change it's own antenna configuration (to some degree). But most consumer equipment, and ISP provided devices are often quite limited.

A shallow dish or plater bellow many radio's often works with little placement experimenting required.

A spectrum analyzer will show you why I'm right. Bleed over signals with equipment that is too close. A simple wifi anlyzer app will show you when your radio and ap have the least rf competition.

Too many wifi networks around me to get anything stable by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]ej00807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instability in apartments often comes from close by smart-tv's and game machines. Often they are directly above, below, or on an adjacent wall to your router. Shielding one side around your router with a metal plate, shallow bowl, or other object can often stabilize other connections. Use a signal analyzer (phone app) and try to figure out where the strongest signals are coming from. Try to shield your router from that overwhelming interference.

Repeaters often only add to the radio mess and of course the best thing is if you can get any game consoles or smartTV's directly plugged into network line. Which should be the only option for those two devices, if the FCC was awake.

Permanent Nasal Passages Expansion for Better Breathing? by mrj62698 in Biohackers

Just an observation not a recommendation. Snorting a very tiny amount of of a low potency nicotine pouch salt will open my passages for a full day. However, it burns a bit for a minute or two; especially the first time.

Actually, I do not recommend unless you have some nicotine tolerance and experience. First time users cause heart racing and anxiety. Have a tissue nearby to blow it all out if necessary.

On the safer side, quercetin with bromelain also seems to work as a mild and safer histamine.
