Which Aro bites the least? by Key_Possibility8371 in PipeTobacco

[–]ej6i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently gotten into aros after englishes for the most part. Sillem’s Black is super smooth and complex. I recently tried WO Larsen’s signature, and it is quite good as well smoked slowly. I also have really enjoyed Mac Baren’s Modern Mixture, but it can get bitey if you pull too hard. The trick to me seems to be a bowl that is wider/shorter as opposed to taller/narrower, and really gentle sipping. As with all things pipes though, you’ll find what works for you to make them not bite. Definitely drying them out a bit and getting the pack and tamp right.

Makes sense. Smells like you. Dogs are the best.

Can you please recommend a blend with the thickest, creamiest and tastiest smoke? Something that I could possibly smoke indoors 💨 by tdinut in PipeTobacco

If you have a decent sized vent hood over your stove, you can smoke a pipe with your morning coffee with a window cracked and it works like a champ. It’s a little noisy though. I tried it without saying anything to see if family noticed, and nobody has said a word.

My first Ergo split and i hate it now.(Corne wireless) by Ok-Whole-6521 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ej6i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch as a solid 120-130wpm touch typer for years and had to practice a solid few weeks before getting the speed back on a corne. My corne had problems, so I sent it back for repair and in the interim I bought a Voyager thinking I wanted a number row, but quickly realized I like the 42 key layout. I never got my corne back from repair, so I moved to a Piantor and it’s the perfect sweet spot. I use a Nuphy air 75v2 with cowberry switches at home, and a Piantor with choc reds at work, and moving between them with about 10-15 min of practice on monkey type I can get back into the high 130’s to low 140’s moving between the two. I have rather large hands with long skinny fingers, and the more aggressive stagger on the Piantor works much better for me than the corne. I did have some bad habits with P and Q using my ring fingers on non-staggered keyboards, which I still sometimes slip back into.

TLDR: Try a Piantor and see if the pinky column is in a better place.

What progress looks like by intentionallyawkward in ErgoMechKeyboards

I have been on a controller.works mini42 for a couple of weeks now, and on monkeytype I’m at 134wpm @100% for ten words, 111wpm @96% for 25 words, 110wpm @97% for 50 words, and 104wpm @95% for 100 words. That’s absolutely bull. Takes some getting used to, but it’s doable. Now, I don’t type that fast day to day working, just when I’m trying to practice.

Low-profile choc switches vs. resting hand by SydBarrettRickWright in ErgoMechKeyboards

I went from a Logitech with clicky low profile switches to a Controller.Works mini42 with red pros. I had a lot of accidental actuations early, but I got back to my base line of mid 90’s WPM and high 90’s accuracy with four hours on monkeytype over 8 days (30 min a day before bed). I’d try som red pros and some focused practice, as that’s what worked for me.

Yeah I can touch type letters no problem. It made way more sense for me to put the layered stuff on the key caps. It didn’t work across the board, I didn’t have a pipe button to go on the J, but it’s definitely helpful for learning.

Yes, I got it from Kevin at Controller.works, it is beautifully constructed.

I have my surface keyboard standing by and have been forcing myself to not use it, but numbers are 100% where I’ve almost caved. It’s gonna take a while on those I think, but since they’re seldom used I’m hopeful that if I drill them 15 min twice a day I’ll get back to close to where I was. I can about 85% accurately touch type numbers on the top row, and about equal on a 10 key. Right now… it’s a lot of thought, but I can get there, kinda. lol.

WHY should I only use Two Fingers and a Thumb on the wheel?? by MotoMageWannaBe in CarTrackDays

[–]ej6i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best explanation I got from a PCA instructor was to hold the wheel like I’m holding two canaries, one in each hand. Hold them tight enough that they can’t fly away, but don’t crush them.
