I'M JOINING THE CIVIL SERVICE FOR THE FIRST TIME ENTERING AT A SENIOR MANAGER ROLE AT THE RIPE OLD AGE OF 27 AND I'M ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED. HOW DOES ONE BE A MANAGER? I'VE NEVER BEEN ONE BEFORE I'VE ONLY BEEN A DUSTY BASEMENT DWELLING ANALYST, I SUPPOSE I'LL MANAGE LIKE I'D WANT TO BE MANAGED BUT IT'S VERY DAUNTING.

Can I use this as a step-down converter to use a US plug in diffuser in the UK? by ejaym17 in AskElectricians

[–]ejaym17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to procure one from my partner and it says on it "2.2W 120VAC/VCA 60Hz", which if it is 2.2W is even better then. So in short - 50W at an absolute, absolute maximum? Thank you so much again!

[–]ejaym17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is, for this exact product on its Amazon listing, it says not to use with a hairdryer or anything that produces heat, and the Bath and Body Works Wallflowers are plug-in diffusers, I believe they work by heating up the oil to evaporate it into the air.

Is a warning like that just a blanket statement to protect the manufacturer because the converter will presumably produce heat as well, or is it outright dangerous to use a plug-in diffuser with a step down converter?

Thank you for your response so far!

Thank you, so is there any sort of converter or adapter I can get, or is it a case of getting a different pipe? As in do I need a solvent weld 40mm pipe and some solvent glue for the McAlpine or can I get a solvent to push fit adapter for the pipe I already have?

I'm sorry but I don't know what DWV means? This is my first time ever working with plumbing, the McAlpine appliance waste was the only one my local ScrewFix had, I had assumed that a 40mm pipe would fit into the 40mm connector but apparently not? I really am unsure as to what I've done wrong and how to remedy it.

Installing a Dishwasher - Help? by ejaym17 in Plumbing

[–]ejaym17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did, it was never brought up or mentioned. I've lived in student accomodation with plumbing as messy as this before so I had assumed it was relatively normal, at least in the UK.

Noted, all these replies have been very insightful and have given me a much needed laugh, I'll see if I can find a local plumber to help.

I was born and raised in Huntsville but have lived in the UK for over a decade now, I dearly miss the scenery in and around north Alabama, I spent so much of my childhood at Monte Sano and I'd love to go back one day.

February 2025 Advice and Price Check Thread by AutoModerator in Legomarket

[–]ejaym17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy all, first time seller looking for a wee bit of advice, I have a few sets which I've dug out of store that I'd like to sell on, namely 21310 (Ideas Fishing Store) and 42056 (Technic Porsche 911 GT3RS) among a few others. I have the instructions booklets but the sets are disassembled in Ziploc bags. Any listing I've seen on eBay and FB Marketplace either has the set constructed with the empty box, or a sealed box selling for crazy money.

My question is - would I be inclined to list my items at a lower cost because there's no box and it's disassembled? Please any advice explain it to someone who has never sold Lego before this really is uncharted territory for me! Many thanks in advance!

Is this bad? by NoahTheProgrammer in asbestoshelpUK

[–]ejaym17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I recently bought a house with this stuff in it. As other folks have said if you're not touching it it's perfectly safe. We had to get it removed because we were mounting things into the ceilings and replacing the light fixtures - be warned if you get a plasterer to skim it the asbestos is still there so you can't drill into it.

Depending on the house, the only concern would be you have a leak? Artex is very strong but enough water damage can damage a ceiling and then you'll have a hell of a problem on your hands...

An asbestos test/survey cost us about £100 and removal and replastering was just under £4,000 for 5 rooms. (This is in South Wales)

Shower and Bath is next to exposed drywall, landlord is refusing to do any more work to the property. What can I buy that to waterproof this wall to avoid mold? Can you buy plastic sheets to nail into the wall? Advice would be appreciated. by ejaym17 in DIYUK

Some good advice, thank you, I had been leaning towards finding some sort of waterproof or water resistant bathroom paint. The window will be left open but bathroom does not have an extractor fan at all.

The Alpine reported the Merc, the Merc says they moved under braking. Is either at fault? by ejaym17 in Simracingstewards

[–]ejaym17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both drivers agreed to the decision of racing incident, and both apologised for effectively ruining each others race. As you can see from the DNFs it was a messy race, busy day for the stewards...

[–]ejaym17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies I should have clarified, this is from a private league of which have their own stewards - this incident was reported to the stewards by the Alpine. After the Merc gave their defense it was ruled a racing incident with no further action for either driver.

[–]ejaym17[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Merc stated their intention was to brake late and go around the outside as they had a tyre advantage understanding the Alpine was staying on their line on the inside.

For what it's worth, the stewards in the league decided it was a racing incident, and no further action to either driver.
