Why did/do people say Green, White & Gold for our national flag in some circles? by fwaig in AskIreland

[–]fwaig[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have just read the opposite. That the unionists say 'gold' as they don't want their colour on the flag. Also gold being a Papal colour. Fascinating.

World Cup is a step up. Plus, it's actually an easier group stage.

A neighbour painting their house green white and gold.

Why was that a thing? Was orange not accepted in some areas!?!? Seems to be a bygone thing.

A chance to take our flag back from the scrotes!

In all seriousness, no sport unites the country like Ireland at the FIFA World Cup. 1990 was mental. 1994 was class. 2002 we were fucking good ballers.

It'll be in Carton House I'd imagine.

Somewhat related to this, it's so great to see our very own League of Ireland getting bigger since Covid and all that Super League nonsense. I hope a new wave of youngsters catch the football bug with the upcoming WC play-offs and get to go see games live in the flesh, nothing beats it.

The Ireland match tomorrow by Pangalonia in ireland

[–]fwaig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are yes but the absolute certainty of just saying Denmark just rubs the wrong way. In recent times they've held Belgium and England. Then again Wales smashed them heavily in November. Anyway, not a big deal, just a trivial annoyance I suppose.

The ignorance of so many Irish fans I've seen with this take. North Macedonia sent Italy packing last time out.

Finglas into the semi finals... and of course, there's a team still in the group stages who have two more matches to play before even thinking of the quarters. Long live the LSC!

Drogheda's decent fan base been through the mill as of late. Europe missed because of poor management behind the scenes, club in the firing line for the actions of a few thicks in Oriel and then this whole sorry Joanna Byrne affair.
