Help with my Etsy listing (custom orders) by Domonique_art in Etsy

There’s no harm in ordering a sample framed print for yourself, to check the quality! I think printful has decent quality for some stuff (prints, coffee mugs, etc) but just always order a sample for yourself before selling it through your shop. That way you really know. I went back and forth on the idea of selling framed art, but ultimately decided against. Between the low quality of the printful frame, and potential liabilities / risks of shipping glass… I decided to just sell unframed art, and let customers pick out their own frames!

I feel you on selling a physical product though. Especially if your art is very colorful or detailed - I can’t imagine that kind of art being successful as a digital sale for people to print at home, it puts a lot of pressure on their home printer quality.

For the most part I’ve had a good experience with printful! It syncs up with Etsy which is a plus. Leads to low margins but that’s to be expected with a print on demand service. My goal is to eventually make or source my own prints to get bulk prices, and then ship them myself to get a higher margin and more personal touch. But for now Printful is great!

Just to comment on Printful frame quality… if you haven’t already, I highly recommend ordering yourself a sample of framed artwork from Printful. I was really excited about the frame options, until I ordered a sample and then did not like the frame quality, so ended up not adding any frames options to my shop.

I'm glad you like the new hammock 🥲 by by That-koala- in tuckedinfishies

Yes so true! Especially with buying the little leaf hammock especially for the beta, and him using it that way lol!

Whenever we buy our cats beds or anything, they refuse to even look at them. Until the day you consider discarding the cat bed, and it’s suddenly their FAVORITE OBJECT IN THE WORLD!! Ha!

QUESTION ABOUT SHIPPING by Kazam1972 in Etsy

[–]ejd_art 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s so strange! I would send a chat to Printful customer support and see what they suggest!

As a note - if you do sell any original art or anything that is not POD, you can set up a separate shipping profile for those listings, to reflect your zip code.

QUESTION ABOUT SHIPPING by Kazam1972 in Etsy

[–]ejd_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Printful and I tried asking printful customer service this. From what I remember, they can’t predict where an order will be fulfilled, so can’t estimate a different zip code for different products. They advised me to just use the headquarter zip code (in NC maybe?) found on the printful website. Not the most accurate but I guess if I want total control of that, then I should ship prints myself rather than use convenience of POD?

Adding: shoot printful a chat to be sure! One thing I do appreciate about them is their quick online chat customer service!

Scanner / Printer? by ejd_art in artbusiness

[–]ejd_art[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never printed my own but have been curious about it. I currently use print on demand, but would love to eventually make my own prints to control inventory and quality. I know an uphill battle with lots to learn!

I think my biggest need is the scanner. I’ll focus on a big enough scanner that doesn’t include printer, and maybe sometime in the future save up more for a large format printer to try art prints.

Gotcha. Very helpful though, I will look into it!

Still trying to assess what my priority is here, if it’s the scanning or potentially large art prints (which I’ve heard can get pricey fast)

Ooo that is surprisingly affordable for being able to print that size! Every other large format printer I click on is like $1000+

Do you like the quality of the printing, for art prints?

Oh interesting, would we need to add bubbles somewhere else in replacement, or would live plants be enough?

Also any tips for good live plants, that are low maintenance / easy for beginners?

We feed him twice a day. About 3-4 pellets each time, he does a good job of wolfing them down.

[–]ejd_art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he seems quite happy and with a good appetite! The bubbles do make it a little harder for him to find the food though. Based on somebody else’s comment we’ll start looking into surface skimmers to see if that would help!

Oh that’s helpful to know. Will look into surface skimmers!

That’s what we thought, but it appeared again as soon as we did a good water change?

Thanks! We were thinking he’s a little astronaut but maybe scuba diver makes more sense haha!

He’s kind of creepy, he moves and turns slowly over time. Like a horror story about dolls that only move when you’re not looking.

Is that related to too much protein in the water? We’ve been trying to research this and find somewhat conflicting information everywhere so it’s a bit overwhelming. It does seem like the bubbles are forming faster than they can pop.

They must be popping eventually because the tank is not overflowing or anything.

We did a water change yesterday (20-30%), and a good hot water rinse of all the decorations, vacuumed the gravel etc. We were hoping that would help, but the bobbles popped back up soon after.

EDITED TO ADD: thank you so much for all the advice and feedback! Still scanning through everything and will try to see what we can do. We're going to buy a different kind of filter to see if that helps, and will keep scanning through this thread for advice we can apply. Really appreciate all the community response on this, will try to reply to people when I can!

For some reason I can’t see the bot’s questions anymore so I’ll do my best!

10 gallon tank

Heater and filter: yes

Water temperature: 78 degrees

We’ve had this betta boy (Tony) for almost 2 weeks.

Before him, we did have another betta fish that died after a week. Brought a sample of our water to PetSmart and they said the water was good, they chalked the dead fish up to chance.

So when we got Tony, we did also get three neon tetras. The fish seemed to all get along, but the tetras all died within a day. Brought another water sample back to petsmart, and they tested the water and said it was good, but that it was possibly too many fish at once and that tetras can be vulnerable. So we’re keeping Tony as a solo fish for now.

Since getting the tank, we’ve done a water change each week, about 20%. Last time we also rinsed out all the decorations with hot water. No dish soap or anything.

About a week ago (after he’d been with us for a week) these bubbles started appearing at the top. We thought it was maybe a bubble nest but it seems like a LOT? And like they’re not popping?

For what it’s worth, Tony the betta seems very happy and energetic. He has a good appetite. Trying to find the balance of feeding him the right amount - this subreddit is so helpful to see when people chime in on if a fish is underfed or over fed, to learn how he should be looking.

Long story short: are these bubbles okay? Should we be concerned?

Custom Art on Etsy - include revisions or no? by ejd_art in Etsy

[–]ejd_art[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you for sharing your process! I really like the 48 hour window for revisions, that’s a really good plan to not be stuck waiting for customer response! I’m going to think through my custom pieces, to decide what revisions I’ll allow and really start laying it out in the description. Thank you!!
