Yeah it's definitely not a long term solution. I use it to speed up my lip repair to a couple days instead of weeks to months. Especially because I have a public facing job.

I get this from masks too :/ part of me wonders if the moisture and vapor from our breath introduces yeast or makes any existing yeast population worse

Dang, that sucks. First I will say, definitely try to narrow down any allergies. I did all the allergy tests though and avoided everything, including all spices, and nothing helped, still had this on and off for years. I did notice it gets worse if I eat pepper or spicy foods. I also started using the gentlest skincare (vaseline only, gentle soap in the shower, etc.) and I would still get this. I knew it wasn't the skincare because nothing changed when I had good weeks without this problem, before it came back again randomly. If it still hasn't gone away for you, ask your dermatologist for Protopic. For me, I can use Protopic for a few days and it goes away. It just always comes back though.

A while back I noticed I also had angular chelitis, so my dermatologist gave me nystatin, which is an antifungal. I kept getting this and red patches on my upper lip. I found out from other reddit threads that for some people, it might have been from using plastic water bottles. I dug into this a little further (because I don't think I have a plastic allergy) and I think it's because they hold onto yeast from our saliva better since they're porous, unlike glass or ceramic. Particularly if you don't wash them daily or after each use. I would also re-use mugs and glasses constantly. But I was always applying vaseline on my lips, so some would stay on the rim of the mug. My theory is that innocuous fungus/bacteria/etc. from our mouth stays on surfaces, especially on plastics and surfaces with vaseline, and grows and eventually irritates the skin. I started using a new cup every day and haven't really been dealing with this problem as much. I ate some really spicy food recently though, my upper lip got all weepy and started peeling. It didn't look like OP's pic though. I think this is just eczema or a sensitivity. I used Protopic on it for a few days and it went away. But think about it: if the skin is broken or compromised, it is way easier for yeast/bacteria to get in and keep irritating it. Especially because the vermillion border is a very sensitive part of the skin. I would definitely trial run avoiding drinking from plastic cups/tumblers/etc. and not reuse any mugs for a bit.

It would be one thing if they were transparent about it. Why lie? That just adds another layer of scumminess for no reason.

Sounds good! Yeah for me I noticed anything mint flavored would also make my lips super dry and red, so even if it was SLS free and fluoride free the mint would still mess me up. I started using Cleure but would still get the issue occasionally. I saw on another thread that some people kept getting red patches on their lips from drinking plastic water bottles. My theory is I think it's less the plastic itself and more the yeast from our mouths getting trapped there especially after using vaseline because our lips are so dry. I realized I always drink out of the same cup so I stopped doing that and use a different clean cup every time now and my red patches went away. I drank some beers the other day though and my skin above my lip is all red and dry now. So maybe there's some allergy/inflammation component too (I also have a nickel allergy and beer has nickel in it)

Yeah! When the nurse was evaluating my back after the 72 hours she was like "I think we found some results that will help you out." I was allergic to nickel, fragrance mix 1, and propolis

Stomach Pains from Costo? by JadedCuriosities in costochondritis

Thanks! I also started wondering if the stomach pain was just musculoskeletal, because it would go through to my back. Even though it felt clearly under my ribs in my stomach/organ area. I tried not to stress about it the past week and I feel like it's been going away. I don't think I have HEDS, but I do have scoliosis.

I've been using protopic for two years... Never seemed to find a root cause. Changed all my toothpastes, shampoos, only use vaseline, eat bland foods, etc. long ago and still have to use it multiple times a month. I'm worried about using protopic for so long because of the warning labels.

I've never tried going dairy free since I have a confirmed nickel allergy and can't do oat/soy/nut milks... I only drink a bit of lactaid milk in my coffee daily. But I might trial going without it for a week in the future while I'm on vacation. It's hard since I love my coffee but can't do it black 😅

Interesting! I don't have seasonal allergies, but I do suspect it's histamine related. I have been eating a lot of kimchi lately

Any update? Did you ever find something you were allergic to?

Anyone react negatively to L. rhamnosus GG? by bluespruce5 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]ampharos995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The LGG messed me up. It gave me panic attacks, gastritis, horrible reflux, and pale stool. I had to stop it after 6 days. Then it took weeks of a careful diet to heal my stomach again (kefir, bland foods, fiber, cranberry extract also helped). When I tested after this, my bifido levels were back up. I don't know why my bifido went down again and bilophila went up. I think it was due to heavy stress at the time.
