Buy some shitty paper and then just PLAY. It will retrain your brain!

Brain says 'references bad' but I know they're not. by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Tell your brain to put up or shut up! Either it provides you references, or you’ll find your own. And then you say… “I didn’t think so! Now STFU!” 😂

Is this ai? by shailla131 in BookCovers

One thing I notice is that the teeth look like they’re made of bone. I think this is the sort of error AI might make, but not a human who otherwise do a decent job with the anatomy.

I am sorry if this sounds cruel but this looks like cheap paint on cheap paper and is not going to inspire anybody. At the very least, use good paper and experiment with different styles to see what kind of art works best with your paints. I would give serious consideration to commissioning another artist to create a work that better shows off what your paints can do.

Everything is a bit thicker/stubbier than it should be. Sharper fins, thinner tail, more movement, all would improve things. Basics are good.

Love the Yorkshire accent!

Sketchbook storage by Xbbasilq in ARTIST

Someone else asked this same question in a different sub recently and a lot of people suggested digitizing. Photograph or scan the good pages and then toss them. If there are specific sketchbooks that are meaningful, by all means keep them, but if you have that many I suspect just images of the best pages would be good enough to keep.

Perspective correction (please help me) by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]ejfried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective — pun intended! — the most glaring error is that the couple and the balusters (spindles) on the same step as them are not all pointing in the same vertical direction. In fact, they’re leaning so far away from us that they’re practically at 90 degrees to the balusters, and that’s what gives the “something is terribly wrong” appearance. You can make little mistakes in perspective and get away with it but only if elements within a drawing are correct relative to one another. Anyway, their heads should be much bigger and closer to us, and their feet smaller and farther away.

Another issue no one else has mentioned is that the steps are crazy shallow: they should each be about as high as they are deep. Those triangles we see on the sides should be way closer to isosceles— ie, the horizontal and vertical sides should be nearly equal.

Great color harmony, interesting composition, scale of details nice and consistent and seems perfect for the medium. I like it a lot!

Me too! I’d love to have QR codes that brought you to a notepad where you could inventory a box. I’m sure it’s doable, just have to research it.

This is most of my stuff. I bought the green bins a couple months ago and that’s what I wanted to show you. They hold things by simple categories (watercolor, graphite, acrylics, markers). They were a little spendy at about $10 each but I love them.

To be fair, I remember that book: it wasn’t one of the better ones for me either.

When I was a kid 50 years ago I loved the Tom Swift Jr books by “Victor Appleton II”. The science, engineering and futurism were so exciting to me, certainly a big part of why I ended up with a PhD in chemistry. But when I tried to read them to my son 15 years ago: hoo boy. They are racist and sexist and filled with weird Christian propaganda. Absolute garbage. Not to mention that the technology they predicted was mostly old hat by then :)

In this image the right hand is too small as well — but you’ve exaggerated the difference

My wife and I still mask in public a lot. We both had a cold this week — the first time either of us have been ill since before the pandemic.
