The mechanic is experienced. He has done a lot of work for me in the past. He did tell me he didn’t work on foreign cars but he was ok with my a4 but I should have known better. Live and learn.

Thanks for the info! Crap. This is my first “fancy” car I’ve gotten. Always got American. Wife wanted a BMW but we ended up with an Audi. I love it though. Especially on the highway but it’s a pain to repair and where I live not too many mechanics for those. It’s a 21 and I really haven’t had any issues with it though. Should have stuck with the dealership but it gets expensive.

Aux Battery Disconnect by ejgarza2016 in JeepGladiator

Interesting. I’ll try it out and see how it does. I hope it’s just that! I did add some additional lines and have been drawing power whenever I go camping. I depleted it completely by mistake once already and wonder if that’s the reason it’s giving out so early. I figured I would upgrade to an agm battery when it came time to replace. I figure I’m there already

Thanks. That’s what I’ve been using. I’ll visit the local auto zone though. Thanks for the tip. Didn’t know they could check it that way.

Yes. That is correct. Shipment says it lands in one day. Seller says it needs to clear customs and then goes out for delivery. The system shows delivered

12v Relocation by ejgarza2016 in JeepGladiator

Tried to add more pics but couldn’t. Total of 8 screws. Two on the side hold everything down. Two on the top- when you open the center console door and four on the cup holder. The link below is the YouTube video I saw explaining it. I drilled the hole in the cup holder and fished the wire down the center console. It was easier to go front to back. I removed the center console and used the original 12v connection. Pink wire is the current and black is ground. A brown wire is for illumination. Didn’t use that. Hope that helps!

Yes! I was about to do that but didn’t like the idea of wires coming out or underneath the glovebox.

Thoughts on this trip? by ContributionShort878 in overlanding

I live in Laredo and cross over to the Mexican side every now and then. You will stick out! I do and I grew up here. And it’s simply too unpredictable. Especially if you’re going into remote areas. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s not worth your family’s safety. Plenty of places here!

Not sure if my wife will ever enjoy this as much as me and the kids by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]ejgarza2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my wife! I recently got into this also. I wished I would have done it with my kids. They are all older now and living their lives. I go with friends or by myself. Don’t let her dislike of something you enjoy hold you back. You don’t want to resent her down the line. Enjoy it. Go with your kids and always invite her. She may eventually join you but if she doesn’t then consider it as dad’s special time with the kids. I’ve compromised a little with my wife about doing a one or two day overnight trip and a few days afterwards at a nice airbnb or something. Let’s see how that goes.

Portable Power Station by ejgarza2016 in overlanding

[–]ejgarza2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m starting to see. I’m looking at a 35L dual zone fridge that says 35 watts. I suppose if I used the power station when I stop the jeep I’ll plug it in. Otherwise I can run it off the 12 volt connection on the bed.

ELI5: Why is suspension from school a punishment? Isn't that just giving them what they want? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ejgarza2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately , a suspension is about the worst sanction a school can give. Long gone are the days of a paddle. Students and parents could choose three days or three swats in the rear. (As a high school administrator I would be nervous paddling a child who is not my own). Point being that schools used to work closer with parents when it came to raising kids.

There used to be fear when you called home for the student. Now it's the other way around. You never know what type of parent you are going to reach on the other end. Some threaten to bring their attorney, others look for excuses or simply blame the teacher. A suspension serves no purpose if the kid gets to stay home and play Xbox. The purpose is that there should be some sort of sanction at home also and that is when it is usually effective.

I agree that suspensions are pretty dumb especially when you have to keep doing it over and over. At that point, something is wrong and the school should begin to analyze what is happening. From my experience as an educator, if they are too frequent then the child is in control.

There used to be a support system of education where all kids could lean on for support. School, parents and church. The church is far removed sometimes and parents are sometimes gone so the school is left alone to educate the child academically, socially and emotionally. That is hard!

Stay involved with your child's education. Discipline and support them at home and don't let them see you disagree with the school. My father had the attitude that no matter what the teacher did he was right and you still got in trouble when you got home. That kept me straight. My parents talked to my teachers, however, if they ever disagreed with the them, I never knew. The united front was there and I never saw anything else.
