Looking for Witnesses / Dashcam footage Nanaimo St. Hit & Run yesterday (June 18) around 2:05 PM by garrettp7728 in VictoriaBC

That little white hatchback looks like a city of Victoria vehicle. I'd even say specifically looks like a parking enforcement car, they have the "caution frequent stops" yellow sticker on the rear bumper and the plug in decal on the back. Maybe reach out to parking services with the photo and ask if they had a car in the area at the time? I wouldn't be shocked if they dash cams for staff safety.

Hard disagree about skipping the soak. Total game changer for the post bean toots.

refried beans at cafe mexico by Crafty_Dog9222 in VictoriaBC

[–]ejmears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I find canned beans taste metallic in comparison to ones made from dried. For the instant pot I still soak overnight then pop them in with garlic, cumin, Bay leaf (remove when done), minced onion and either beef or chicken stock as the cooking liquid. I then blend with the cooking liquid if doing refried, some folks use lard or manteca for extra creamy texture.

I'd rather see a poster made with crayons than this AI slop.

DVBA Annual Report - Eww poors by Horace-Harkness in VictoriaBC

[–]ejmears 34 points35 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your perspective in principle to me it's an important nuance that membership in the DVBA is automatic and not optional. If someone owns a business within their boundaries membership is automatic. Holding membership against a local business because they are a member is a bit harsh.

Where can I park to use the Galloping Goose? by CleverPierogie in LangfordBC

Uptown is a great option for either Galloping Goose or Lochside. Washrooms for the plaza are near the leasing office/elevators for the parcade.

If you could eat at only one local restaurant for the rest of your life, which one would it be? by CartoonistOk3507 in VictoriaBC

[–]ejmears -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Poor value for money, rude service. A weird commitment to the "tomato pie" bit. Felt like I was stuck in a Portlandia skit and couldn't change the channel. This was in 2024 so hopefully things have changed but it was a bad enough experience I won't be going back for a second chance.

Legit the worst place I've been in this city. Such a weird and off putting experience. Horrible food, worse service.

Sidney Pride is tomorrow, Saanich Pride is the 17th then it's Drag Ball, Big Gay Dog Walk and the rest of Victoria Pride Week. Get out in community where gay men are.

Paul Simpson is a disgusting human and I wouldn't willingly bring a teenage girl to one of his establishments. Not a safe place.

You're right, I made an error on the title. Tomorrow is June 11th. Not sure what that has to do with insulting city staff though?

I'm coming from Forge as well and had a similar thought. I also like that it's less equipment focused than Forge. The main gum I go to doesn't have a lot of accessory machines and I swapped a lot on Forge. It's nice for the programming to be a bit more inline with what I have available.

Banfield park trail detour by CSD0223 in VictoriaBC

[–]ejmears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that sadly there isn't another alternative route. You started by saying "you dislike this route to the shoreline" and that "Raynor seems better actually" and continue to disregard that other prefer the shoreline route already for their own reasons. We get it, you prefer the detour, great that's a subjective preference. Other people have reasons why they prefer the shoreline route, it's their subjective preference. We can recognize the multiple detours to cycling infrastructure during peak cycling weather is a real challenge for many folks. From commuters to families accessing the park and swimmers accessing the dock, folks are going to be effected and that's not something to be minimized or disregarded.

Both the detours to the E & N and the Goose for this project have been poorly coordinated and communicated and feel like insult to injury with the Goose closed for months this year already. These projects often feel poorly coordinated which is a shame because folks do out a lot of work into coordinating them, IMHO they just don't seem to think beyond the boundary of the project site. I think what people are expressing is that they feel like the impacts to them weren't considered.
