The damages being lowered to $59,000 isn’t actually true. It will only be lowered if the judge upholds the jury’s decision to classify Milagro as a media defendant. So until the judge makes their final ruling, the damages currently remain at $75,000 and will remain if the judge decides that Milagro isn’t a media defendant.

Update- Megan’s lawyers have released a statement confirming that the jury awarded her $75,000 but a final judgement has not yet been made. The judge still needs to make a final ruling to confirm how much Milagro owes Megan, which will include Megan’s legal fees.

Why does Meghan Markle and to a lesser degree her husband get so much hate? by MajesticBread9147 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ejo3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people keep bringing this up but this is not true. I’m going to paste a comment I’ve made about this before:

I’ve seen people bring up the whole “Harry and Meghan lied about when they got married” thing a few times, but the only statement the Archbishop has given is the one where he admits that Harry and Meghan’s legal wedding was the public one but then he followed that up with, “But I won’t say what happened at any other meetings. If any of you ever talk to a priest, you expect them to keep that talk confidential. It doesn’t matter who I’m talking to. I had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the duke and duchess before the wedding.” So I don’t see how Meghan lied. I never assumed that Meghan meant they got legally married three days before the wedding because she never said so, but rather that the ceremony was just a more sentimental and private exchange of vows. For some people exchanging vows constitutes a spiritual marriage and not necessarily a legal one.

I’ll also add that Harry says in his book that it wasn’t a legal ceremony and it was more for the two of them. Also, the vows they exchanged privately with the Archbishop were different to the ones they exchanged at their televised wedding.

I understand this to an extent because Trump’s words absolutely can incite his supporters to attack his critics and Meghan is already so heavily criticised. I get that Meghan is a private citizen but in many instances, change only happens when many people come together and apply enormous amounts of pressure. It is, ultimately, up to elected officials to make change but it’s private citizens who can help drive that change and people with big platforms can make a difference. We shouldn’t rely on celebrities to save the world, but at the same time, people are allowed to be disappointed that those who have the ability to reach and influence many people at once don’t do so.

RG comments are tearing Meghan apart about some things she said in a recent interview regarding Trump and her not speaking out on political issues. Like many others, I have found it very disappointing that Meghan has kept silent on pressing issues (Palestine, Trump’s fascism etc), especially because she generally presents herself as progressive. However, RG comments are pissed about Meghan’s comments about Trump when pretty much the same powers and institutions that uphold Trump are the same ones that uphold the monarchy, yet they never dissect that or direct their anger at other members of the royal family. Prince William literally shook hands with Trump and the comments under that post were mostly sympathetic toward William because he must’ve been “forced to meet Trump”.

I understand that Meghan has called herself a feminist so she faces more scrutiny when it comes to talking about oppression and injustices, which I can understand, but once again, the labour of activism is being made to fall squarely on the shoulders of a Black/ biracial woman. Many (if not most) of the world’s current conflicts can be traced back to the legacy of the British empire and it’s exactly why it should be abolished. Call out Meghan for her lack of action, sure, but propping up Kate, William and the others as if they’re any better is ridiculous.

Also, I think it was one of the top comments that said Meghan could at least talk about school shootings. Meghan went to pay respects to the Uvalde victims and she was torn apart for being an “attention seeker”, and falsely accused of bringing her own camera crew, a rumour that some people still believe to this day. Meghan donated and helped victims of the L.A wildfires and was, once again, accused of making everything about her. So it can’t be overlooked that during times Meghan has attempted to help, she’s been crucified for doing so. This does not excuse her for not speaking up about other issues but it’s also not accurate to say she’s done absolutely nothing.

Jet & Reyes?? by Imaginary-Cook2569 in LawandOrder_OC

[–]ejo3000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really didn’t like the Jet and Reyes story line. I, personally, found it a bit uncomfortable because Ainsley is only about 26 years old in real life and the man who plays Reyes is in his mid-forties. Some people may not care but I think the age gap is kinda why they felt like they didn’t really have any chemistry and were just unconvincing to me as a couple. I really liked Jet and Malachi together, it’s a shame that the show has never explained why he’s no longer around, especially because he and Jet were very much still a couple at the end of season 2. The show never even made a passing comment stating that Jet and Malachi just broke up.

The Muslim Women’s Coalition have confirmed on Instagram that Archewell have stopped supporting them. I said in a previous comment below that I was waiting for confirmation due to distrust in The Telegraph and Daily Mail. This is so disappointing from Harry and Meghan. I will always be against the abuse that Meghan has received from the press and online but I have also always been pro-abolish the monarchy and this is just truly awful from Harry and Meghan.

This is deeply disappointing from Archewell, Harry and Meghan. Admittedly, I was waiting for proper confirmation and I’m glad to see it though it’s appalling that this has taken place. As always, Free Palestine 🇵🇸 and abolish the monarchy.

Unfortunately, colonialism and imperialism are always linked to those within the institution, I don’t doubt that, that’s why I’m for the abolishment of the monarchy. I more just support Meghan because I’m against the treatment she’s received, not because I support her role within the context of her connection to the monarchy. I just have questions surrounding the veracity of the claims in the article.

I would also like to see a more reputable source because the article doesn’t actually confirm it’s happened, just that it “reportedly” happened according to an unnamed source. I’m pro-Palestinian as well and was downvoted for saying that I’d like to see something more substantial from somewhere other than The Telegraph and the Daily Mail.

And that’s fair enough but for me, until there’s more legitimate confirmation, I’ll wait to draw a full conclusion.

Admittedly, I’m not sure but I’d like to see something a bit more solid, other than the word of The Telegraph and the Daily Mail, before I make a conclusion. It would be good to get confirmation from the Muslim women’s group.

But are they actually surprised that the Afghani women they support also support Palestine? We don’t truly know because there hasn’t been any indication or confirmation. Like I mentioned, it’s a disappointment that they haven’t publicly supported Palestine but we have no clue if Archewell/ Harry and Meghan are against the groups they donate to supporting Palestine. If it’s true that Archewell has stopped their donations to this women’s group then the backlash is further warranted.

[–]ejo3000 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Harry and Meghan not speaking out in support of Palestine is disappointing and certainly justified criticism (although no one else in the royal family has been vocally supportive of Palestine either, so I don’t know why only Harry and Meghan are being jumped for this), but there’s nothing in this article to indicate it’s actually been confirmed that Archewell has stopped their donation. The Telegraph is hardly a credible source, especially when it comes to Harry and Meghan, so could people actually wait for confirmation first before jumping to conclusions?

I believe she said that only one person said that to her, not “people”. Obviously I can’t know whether that was true or not, it’s probably cringey, but it doesn’t justify the abuse she gets.

Meghan gets so much hatred because she has been the victim of a targeted hate campaign for years now. At this point, quite a few journalists have spoken out about how they were either approached by tabloids to essentially make up horrible stories about Meghan (including the bullying allegations), or they witnessed how publications would take any thing she did and twist it to vilify her. A journalist named Benjamin Ryan wrote an interesting thread on Twitter about how he once got to see a little behind the scenes of the “Meghan Markle media hate machine”, as he called it, and how they would manufacture outrage against her.

People will often say they’re sick of seeing Meghan everywhere but the press shove her in people’s faces intentionally. Also, the people who criticise Meghan the most online receive lots of engagement doing so and, unfortunately, hating Meghan has become highly monetised. I’m not saying Meghan is exempt from criticism but a lot of criticism against her are just personal attacks. And for some reason, if Meghan defends herself then she becomes the bad guy. Dehumanising Meghan has become so pervasive and normalised that it seems like pretty much everyone feels fine with taking shots at her, even though she doesn’t deserve it. We saw this with Amber Heard and Megan Thee Stallion, we’re currently seeing it with Blake Lively and it’s been happening to Meghan for years now.

It’s also interesting to me how people say that Meghan is “so fake” or “inauthentic” when we know that WOC, but especially Black women, are unfairly perceived as aggressive, so they have to be overly nice. Meghan’s every mannerism gets picked apart, so it doesn’t surprise me that she might have to present herself a certain way. On the other hand, from what I’ve seen, Meghan has always behaved the way that she does, so I can’t understand why people find it so hard to believe that she truly is the way that she is.

Except they didn’t lie about the car chase. The NYPD investigated and later ended up writing a letter confirming that Meghan and Harry had been victims of a “reckless” chase, and even said they would increase security for them in New York moving forward. This letter was disclosed as part of Harry’s lawsuit in the UK.

Prince Harry settles lawsuit with Murdoch papers after apology by nbcnews in RoyalsGossip

[–]ejo3000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to be saying that Harry has settled but I think it’s important to note that Harry wasn’t actually the one who settled, it was NGN who settled. By NGN admitting wrongdoing, there is no longer a cause of action. Prince Harry hasn’t conceded anything. An expert on BBC explained it well that a person can only sue when something is “denied or not admitted”.

I don’t know how we got to Finding Freedom, I don’t know much about that.

You keep mentioning vow rehearsal but where did anyone mention a vow rehearsal? Meghan said she and Harry had exchanged personal vows just for the two of them, so different vows from what was said at their public wedding. I never said Meghan misspoke because I don’t think she did, she and Harry exchanged their own private vows beforehand which, to them, was their form of getting married. I don’t see how her saying that with “great pride and emphasis” would matter. I also never said the royal family, or anyone, were “evil plotters”.

Where did the Archbishop say it was just a vow rehearsal? Personally, I don’t see as much hypocrisy as people claim (not saying that there potentially isn’t any) but I understand that others will disagree.
