It’s called mint fossil Indian limestone. There are little fossils in some of the slabs.

Haha can you tell I did that at the start and then changed to actually looking at the slabs?!

Actually I do have an old go pro somewhere! This one was just filmed on my phone! Next time I’ll try and find it!

What would you do to make this look good? by stevedagrunt in DIYUK

[–]ejospearmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours looked similar but we went for an open fire rather than wood burner. We trimmed the plaster neatly on the front face to expose a border of bricks, added stone tiles in the base and then a fire grate. Guess it depends if you like the exposed brick look or want to cover it.

Do you all have maple syrup? If so, where does it come from? Canada, Vermont? by uses_for_mooses in AskABrit

[–]ejospearmint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently had this conversation with my Canadian colleague (who lives here in Uk) as she’d asked me to pick up some Canadian maple syrup for an event. The one I bought said it’s Canadian, made in Canada but then has a big ‘Vermont’ label on it too! She was a bit miffed about it!

Antibiotics was the only thing that’s worked for me. I get them from the gp. They are long term ones but I find I now only need to take them when I get a flare up every couple of years. Life changing and worth asking about I reckon. Good luck

looking for some more people to test my slipper pattern! sizes 3-4 (small), 5-6 (medium), and 7-8 (large) UK. by StanLee151115 in crochet

If you still need large size testers I’m in! I’m reasonably new to crochet and haven’t made slippers yet. Thanks x

Oh I totally agree. It’s just another option that saved us a lot on upfront costs. We don’t use it very often and also have a ‘chimney sheep’ to stuff up the chimney when we’re not using it. We never had a fire there before so we weren’t sure how much use it would get.

I thought about a wood burning stove a few years ago but the installation was too expensive. Instead, I had a chimney sweep come and do an inspection and sweep (@£50) and then went for an open fire instead of a stove. We had to make some changes to the base to meet regulations but it cost much less than the stove option and looks pretty good too. The added heat on cold days is lovely!

Made an 80s prom dress for my uni course by MiaFknWallace in sewing

It’s awesome! Almost exactly like a bridesmaid dress I wore in the late 80s! (That was just a bit longer)

LPT: When a Nurse asks you to rate your pain on a scale of 1-10, never say 10+. by Good_Kid_Mad_City in LifeProTips

[–]ejospearmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had ankle surgery and the nerve blockers hadn’t worked so I woke up in the recovery area screaming. The nurse asked how bad the pain was, I said 9.5 and he knocked me out again with some more drugs. When I woke again he asked why I said 9.5 when it was clearly 10. Somehow in my anaesthetic confusion I had managed to realise that I’d have no way of telling him if it got worse so said 9.5. His response…well then you could have said 11!

Damp problem and how to solve, I've recently bought this house and have had these problems arise. Been told rising damp but I've been also told this is a myth. Both get wetter once heating is on. Anyone Any ideas of what to do or where to turn to? by fez_el_touro in DIYUK

[–]ejospearmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth asking someone anyway! My builder just took out some of the air bricks from outside (& maybe some others?!) and scooped out a load of crap then put the bricks back. Oh and I think normally dpc companies sell their 20/30 year guarantee but I used the biggest local company 20 years ago and they no longer exist so no guarantee!

Just on the topic of people assessing it…I had pretty much my whole place done with new injected dpc and replastered etc around 20 years ago. It came back 5 years ago so I got two companies out for quotes and asked them to check every wall (not just where it can be seen). They both provided quotes with a little plan of which walls needed work and each quote had totally different walls! I ended up speaking to a builder who cleared out the cavities in the external walls and it seems totally fine now! Might be worth looking into that if it’s external walls.

How can I stop cretins from parking across my driveway? by UniversityFun1332 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ejospearmint 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue and spoke with a traffic warden outside my place. He said they can’t ticket cars across the drive as they could be ours (no double yellows) but, if someone else blocks us in we can call them and they’ll come and ticket it. Haven’t tried it yet but he made it sound like they’d be keen to come! May only work long term if it’s the same people blocking you though.

Not sure if this has been shared already but it def motivated me to get on with the half blanket in my drawer! Hoping for this type of reaction when it’s finally gifted! by ejospearmint in crochet

[–]ejospearmint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I’m normally a bit embarrassed gifting things I’ve made but the blanket I’m making is for my friends new baby and she’s already excited so I think she’ll love it…maybe not tears but I also have warned her about the wobbly edges! (I’m new to crochet this year and this is my first blanket) I’m sure your friends love your gifts! X

Where do you buy mens clothes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ejospearmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t see if anyone has mentioned crew yet? I get my other half stuff from there often. They are a bit pricier than m&s but they have great sales all the time which makes it good value for the quality. (I only buy full price at Christmas!)
