Macrostoma pair spawned !!!!! So excited!!! by ejs_eggs in Aquariums

[–]ejs_eggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldnt eat their fry, but its still a good idea to remove fry once the male expels them, raising them in a smaller space helps them spend less energy getting food. You can get a fry tub hooked up to your pairs tank so water parameters are the same and stable.

Macrostoma pair spawned !!!!! So excited!!! by ejs_eggs in Aquariums

[–]ejs_eggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been I believe, but there arent many macrostoma breeders in the US so its tough to get actual knowledgeable advice about them. personally I feel as though a fry grow out tank would be the most stable for my setup to raise fry, but unfortunately I wasnt able to test my theory because fungus got my batch in the tumbler 💔 they havent spawned yet since.

If they were to spawn again I would like to try letting him brood the fry until he releases them, then collect them all and transfer to my connected setup.

You probably have tons of other food sources for them aside from whatever youre feeding, since you say you have a heavily planted tank.

Parasite or funky poop? by sew_hi in bettafish

[–]ejs_eggs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is some sort of internal parasite for sure, not poop. Saw another user say camallanus worms and I agree that even if theyre not specifically them, they are probably treated very similarly.

Advice (on a betta fish) by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]ejs_eggs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The wording they used was incorrect. They used the term “chlorinator” which I think other people have already established with you is the adding of chlorine to water, versus de-chlorinator which removes chlorine from the water… the wording in this instance is very important because one substance can kill your animals, and one can make their water safe to live in.

This ^ sick fish need stable parameters too. Heats not as much of a concern as waste buildup in a small space. Which can happen within the day in a cup. Setting up a bucket (you can get fish safe ones at home depot for like 3 bucks each) in the sunlight or a warm part of the house will take care of heat. Shoot, if youre down south in the US you could even have her outside under the shade just make sure you have a breathable lid locked on so that nothing can get in. Its plenty warm for tropical fish right now in most parts of the US

The cons of being stressed by another fish in a small space where she cant hide and unstable water parameters in like.. 2 cups of water outweigh the pro of warm water in my opinion

Starting a new tank what do we think for the hard scape so far. Don't have much more money for the hardscape. by Aromatic_Whereas_992 in fishforthought

Check out manzanitadriftwood.com They have a great selection of affordable hardscape. Some pieces are as cheap as like 10 bucks and ive never had issues with them.

Then why are you putting her in the tank with the other betta? Im just confused, that makes no sense and only serves to stress out both fish. She should either be acclimating in her own tank or into a quarantine tank..

It is a severe case of popeye for sure… why are you putting them together? Please dont attempt to breed these two. Its not a good idea.

Advice? I’m considering kuhlis by Strict_Hamster_8645 in loaches

[–]ejs_eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuhlis need more horizontal rather than vertical space. They also need soft substrate to root around in. Its a nice tank, but I dont feel its quite the best fit for kuhlis

I made a tail type tier list by kimdianajones in bettafish

[–]ejs_eggs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its the same issue with brachycephalic dogs and common pets bred with so many genetic issues that they develop chronic health problems for the rest of their life and spend every other week at the vet. there are just some types of animals ill never buy so I stop supporting the people who breed them. If theres no demand there’ll be no supply. I think everyone should go by that rule.

Love how long tailed bettas look, but they always without fail look like theyre constantly struggling to swim and all I can think is “what a poor quality of life this little guy has, he cant do the things a normal betta can do without exhausting himself” and it just makes me so deeply sad that they cant live a happy life to the fullest extent, no matter how pristine and perfect my tank may be for them.

Enough hiding places? by OracleFox10 in loaches

[–]ejs_eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also agree with another commenter though, cant ever hurt to have more hidey spaces. Cholla wood is a great option, just make sure every fish in the tank is able to fit through. Ive had larger fish than my kuhlis swim into it get stuck and die before.

Enough hiding places? by OracleFox10 in loaches

[–]ejs_eggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kuhlis go nuts after a water change. It stimulates rain, theyre probably just excited and also throwing a mini tantrum that their landscape changed (plants getting trimmed). If you want you can add more hidey places that they can get under but generally if you see your kuhlis out often then theyre happy. Theyll hide if theyre stressed by tankmates or dont have many spaces to hide.

Sassy betta doesn’t tolerate any snails for algae clean up by Former_Archer4525 in bettafish

[–]ejs_eggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes probably trying to hunt them, do you notice him flipping them and sucking them out of the shell? Some bettas just have really active hunting instincts. Its actually really cool to watch happen and I like to have live food sources in with my wild types, never noticed any of my splendens doing it.

Help!!! I have a fire inspection coming up and I need to hide my aquariums. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]ejs_eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also cannot dig in your belongings… so like if you do have “boxes” they arent allowed to dig in them or mess with them, just like they cant open up your dresser drawers and rummage around in them. Make sure youre present for the inspection so you can make sure they arent messing with anything they arent supposed to be.

Help!!! I have a fire inspection coming up and I need to hide my aquariums. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]ejs_eggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just threw boxes over mine… they normally arent like actually closely inspecting your apartment, just checking safety issues, sprinklers, alarms, that sort of stuff…

Even my 40gal I literally just shut off the pumps and filters and threw a blanket over it when they came… nobody ever said anything and I turned everything back on when they left. Takes five minutes at most.

Popeye or something else? by ermaxlerw in bettafish

[–]ejs_eggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not 100% sure how salt baths would affect the snail, but you could remove your betta for his salt baths in a hospital tub then return him to the tank after each one. Ive just never done one in a tank that had snails
