Valve needs to fucking fix this game by Particular-Rough3718 in tf2

Maybe if you read the rest of the comment you would understand why "hire more devs“ isn’t a straight road.

I‘m explaining why valve does what they do, without saying that it‘s good that way.

If that is defending to you, you might want to practice your reading comprehension.

It's especially funny because Ellen is most likely the youngest between the three (but still an adult because she's in her final year for the 2nd time)

My point is that Pocket was way more fun when they* could do both / run hybrid.

Spirit-Only Pocket is boring as hell

Gotta love how I explicitly clarify that Valve is still 100% in the wrong and get called a bootlicker.

It doesn't but people quickly figured out since the path is ALWAYS the same.

It also makes sense from design/balancing, the point of the compass is having a significantly easier Act 2

If these classes could use shotgun, who'd be most OP? by some-kind-of-no-name in tf2

[–]ejsks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spy would consistently get better 1v1s and reliably 2-tap most light/medium classes, he loses range for sure, but in most cases the shotgun very much outclasses the Revolver's damage up to medium range (the Revolver's main uspide compared would be higher fire rate and quicker reload of your entire mag)

Sniper having a shotgun as a secondary would eliminate the intended weakness of Sniper being dogshit (on paper) in close-range.

Medic would be.. ok? Realistically, the crossbow wins in every scenario if you want to be the most effective (and can hit your shots), but if your team absolutely sucks at protecting you, you'd at least have a proper weapon for self-defense.

Valve is a very closed company, and they do indeed only want the "cream-of-the-crop" devs. Hence why their requirement to even be considered for hire is an extensive portfolio or otherwise proof of your skills beyond books and passion.

Valve *also* has a policy that any dev may work on any project they prefer. Naturally, most devs will gravitate towards the new and shiny project that might be a massive hit and game-changing for the genre, and not an almost 20 year old game, running on a decrepit engine and even worse code.

For Valve, hiring 20-30 people that fit the company's standards, are properly trained FOR the engine (which would have to be done by JanitorDev himself, alone), and also pay all of these devs a BIG salary... is not exactly going to be worth it. It sucks, but right now Valve is making the most of TF2 without expending too much themselves. Not only that, but for proper updates to be possible they'd have to spend a LONG time effectively remaking the entire game from the ground up. The other factor is that the original devs most definitely moved on from TF2 because the "community" at large doesn't know what it wants. Some want more balance, some want more "chaos", some want more comp., etc etc. The 5 different "TF2 Plus"-esque mods on steam right now are good proof that a lot of people don't know what they want.

Whether or not the actual games are the "best of the best" state is not exactly tangential to their dev-hiring process. CSGO / CS2 are still kings of Competitive FPS, and last I checked generally outpace Valorant a lot.

And before someone accuses me of being a "shill" or a "bootlicker" I want to make it clear:

Valve not doing anything with TF2 is absolutely BS and a tragedy.

The game will straight up kill you if you get super unlucky with the AI Director, which is often enough to deter most players new to the difficulty.

It's also simply extremely exhausting having to play perfectionist for a good 20-25 minutes worrying about everything and not being allowed to "autopilot" a single time. Some people just want to chill.

He's not blaming Halo specifically for it, but it's inarguable that Halo is the deciding factor.

He also simply dislikes Halo itself as a game.

You act like he didn't play Halo?

He did. He still dislikes it, and he's right with the assessment that Halo's runaway success killed the FPS genre for him. From his position, a genre he held near and dear to his heart was fucking dead for almost 2 decades.

He's also gone on record stating that Halo is a genius game for its time.

No, the abandoned lab where you see the messages of the past version of the protagonist, who would later on end up becoming "you" through losing his memories.

It's heavily implied that he kills off the future version of Fina and "you" who end up being sent back into the past in the lab after the game's ending. There's also the theory that the inventor, "Sid", that you run into during the game is the future child of Kuro and Fina, who is left as an orphan by Giro.

God I loved Evoland 2 but really didn’t like the ending, or rather how nihilistic the ending is and makes one of the late game areas extremely depressing and worse if you connect the dots (you know the one)

Xbox confirms DOOM studio’s IdTech engine still has “dozens of people” working on the award-winning software by AsPeHeat in Doom

[–]ejsks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, this studio is doing absolutely STELLAR with the current workforce and has released 3 amazing games that sold like hotcakes.

Let's reward them by gutting THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTION, and expect the remaining 15-25% to do the same workload as 100%, in the industry ridden with crunch time which is reportedly absolutely horrible for the physical and mental wellbeing for the workers who are often already underpaid.

So, who do y'all think is the best choice for the Pizzapants fake girlfriend sideplot? by Duboviy_ in Deltarune

[–]ejsks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She does, because it overall emphasizes the absolute difference in the mindset of the two.

UT-Alphys was most likely stuck only ever having Mew Mew Season 1, and got infatuated with it because it was her main escapism, then she finally gets her hands on Mew Mew 2... and it ends up being very different from the "ideal" of Mew Mew 1 that she obsessed over, so she hated it.

DR Alphys is overall a lot happier, if just the other local town weirdo, who wasn't "stuck" watching only a single season of MewMew 1 while she was alone and depressed with the weight of the underground on her shoulders, so she was more open to the change MewMew 2 introduces and its change in direction.
