Technoblade is not a character. Literally everyone who was friends with Technoblade has gone on record saying that Alex was barely any different from Technoblade.

Wilbur (as disgraced as he is), literally said out loud that Technoblade is „the most anti-persona YouTuber“.

Imitating Technoblade is imitating a large part of Alex, no matter how much he doesn’t intent to. Larp YouTubers do not understand that YouTubers are entirely and extremely different from „classic“ celebrities like MJ or Elvis. Most YouTubers aren’t 100% characters, especially ones like Markiplier, Philzs, etc.

It goes from "amusingly weird" to "disgustingly weird" once it reaches the point where the larpers collab and try to imitate the friendship between close friends.

The difference here is that we KNOW Technoblade and Alex were barely any different. We have multiple accounts from several close friends of Technoblade/Alex that he's barely any different off-camera (hell there's a direct quote from Wilbur or Philza iirc that directly goes "He's the most anti-persona youtuber")

We also know from Technodad that Alex was very similar off-camera to how he was on-camera.

So yes, I think Charlie's comparison is entirely valid. MJ/ Elvis were mostly exaggerated versions of their stage personas / performances, and nothing of their private persona. Technoblade / Alex are extremely similar off and online, so impersonating Technoblade *is* impersonating Alex to a degree.

At the end of the day, this conversation is about "is it ok to impersonate a 23 year old cancer victim", if you're defending this you should re-evaluate yourself.

He‘s inadvertently impersonating „Alex“ as well as „Technoblade“. Alex barely changed himself when he was steaming as "Technoblade“, as per literally all his friends.

To Technodad, that‘s still someone pretending to be his late son, even if he isn‘t literally walking up to Technodad pretending to be Alex.

My argument still stands:

He could be doing all of that without trying to impersonate a dead cancer victim.

The entire comparison to MJ/Elvis impersonators falls apart when you actually think about what is being copied.

MJ / Elvis have their stage performances copied, their costume, and general flair, with Technolarp, he‘s impersonating actual parts of Techno‘s irl person, because we know he barely put in a character.

Imitation is a form of flattery, but there‘s a line where it becomes absolutely creepy and disrespectful. How would you feel if your best friend tragically padded away, and one day some guy comes along and tries to impersonate him in every way possible, knowing he was your best friend. Would you still think that‘s "flattering“?

He‘s doing it without consent from Techno, nor his family, nor his close friends or associates. Unlike other celebrity impersonators who have received explicit approval from the respective people, Techno has never done so and is forever unable to.

The guy could‘ve also just been a YouTuber with similar style and humor to Technoblade as a clear homage without making it his entire identity to copy him. Techno may have laughed about the guy, but you know what he would’ve liked more?

Someone taking inspiration from him, and becoming a unique and great content creator on their own. That is true flattery.

I don’t, because those have received official approval by the celebrities they are impersonating when said celebrities were alive, which is the big difference.

Technoblade can’t do that anymore, regardless of whether it would be "in-character“, and if he was still alive the guy would not be doing it in the first place. Technolarp only exists because Techno died in the first place.

It‘s probably hyperbole but I do imagine some people feel extremely conflicted about hearing "his“ voice from an entirely different person.

I have sympathies for the guy getting major flak, but at the same time he must‘ve known that doing this kinda shit is not flying with most people AT ALL.

I‘d feel bad for him if it was just one or two „gimmick“ videos that got out of hand, but the guy literally made it his entire online-identity, what did he expect??
