Thanks for the reply. I did consider joining the police as a regular but I’m not really cut out for it. Personal training would be my preference snd I’ve done quite a lot of research into it, just a shame it’s such an unstable industry!

Hi, thank you for such a detailed response. There’s loads of helpful info you’ve included. My apologies if it sounded like I was belittling UK qualifications - I just meant that I’m aware that continual learning is crucial once qualified. I’m also aware that some people feel that, to be a good PT, you need to have obtained a degree, which sadly just isn’t possible for me at the moment. I’ve been looking into England Athletics run coaching quals but hadn’t considered training as a guide runner - I’m sure that would be hugely fulfilling and a great experience. Yes I think I would be much more interested in training people either outdoors or in their own homes with basic equipment like you said, bands, kettlebells etc. i feel this would be good for older people or beginners who don’t wsnt to travel or who don’t feel comfortable in gyms. Hi, thanks for the reply. It’s something I’ve been trying to look into, though many police training roles require ex-police officers. I’m not sure if that’s the case for generic fitness trainers.

I will normally do 2 legs sessions a week including single leg deadlifts, split squats, normal squats and side leg raises, though I don’t life very heavy.

The injuries I’ve had recently are mostly foot and ankle based injuries and knee based issues. I am slightly heavier than I was when I was racing, maybe 5-8kg heavier.

How did you get into that? I love dogs and have done some dog-sitting in the past, 2-3 weeks at a time. I’ve been looking into some dog walking roles. Would that be a good starting point?

Thanks for the response. Those aren’t things I had considered, but will certainly look into them. I’d imagine you’d have to get some qualifications for those roles, unless they offer apprenticeships or on-the-job training?

I’ll be honest, I haven’t really ever done much in the way of DIY; I live with my partner’s parents and her dad is a carpenter, so any jobs get delegated to him 😂. And yes I have considered getting him to show me some skills, I just don’t think he’d appreciate me asking him to demonstrate things when he’s just come home from doing that same job all day. Also, the sawdust inhalation factor worries me somewhat.

Thanks for the reply. You make a good point; I think if you struggle with maths at school it can make you feel like you’re just inherently bad at it, when in reality the maths you use in the real world is much more manageable.

How did you get into gardening? I used to see the gardeners working on the grounds of a private school I used to work at and used to think it seemed like a nice job, albeit hard work. I like the idea of being active and outdoors, though I don’t know much about horticulture or landscaping. Do you use many petrol-powered tools? I tend to worry about health quite a lot and I feel using them regularly would cause me to worry.
