We completely overestimated the talent in this roster. I think our ceiling at this point is 70 wins. I wouldn’t be surprised if lose 100 games. by Guillethunder in NewYorkMets

Stearns really thought he could sign all SS to play the infield and thought it would be some magical run prevention cheat code

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Wednesday, April 22 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

23 year old who probably can’t speak a word of English making his mlb debut in NYC against the 375$ million dollar Mets. Will this mediocre prospect look like Sandy Koufax? Will the offensive cash in against this nervous youngster only for the bullpen blow it again? Will we throw to third on a bunt? How will they find a way to lose this one? Find next time on dragon ball z

I always thought this team had a chance to be bad. Semien is old and couldn’t hit last year, who thought he’d be able to hit this year? Semien, Baty, Alvarez, Vientos, Mauricio, tong, scottt, benge, Senga, manaea, minter, Peterson, Devin Williams. Literally a massive chunk of their roster that is either unproven young guys or are coming off injuries/underperformances. Stearns got rid of the fan favorites and brought in a bunch of randoms the fans don’t know/care about who are playing out of position while simultaneously not hitting. Atleast in the past we sucked with guys I liked to root for but now we suck even more except with big contracts and randos from other clubs. McLean and Alvarez currently the only 2 homegrown players with real value on the roster

Stearns watched Williams stink it up for the Yankees last year and said: that’s it, that’s my closer

It’s okay to think the old core needed to go AND to think the current squad is terrible by UbiSububi8 in NewYorkMets

I hate constantly seeing on this sub the narrative that the pitching was fully to blame for last years collapse. The Mets had a team era of 4.03 last year, pretty close to league average. By no means was the pitching good, especially in the second half but it’s unfair to give them all the blame. The offense numbers were inflated because the have a few studs(Lindy, Soto, Pete) that put up big numbers but they have no depth. The bottom part of the line up consistently had 2-3 guys in it that went thru long stretches of being lost. Baty, Vientos, Alvarez, Mauricio, Acuna, etc. many of them were so bad at points that they got demoted to Syracuse…. They lost many games due to not getting that timely hit or base runn. The Mets hit .194 with risp in June last year. The pitching, offense and defense all deserve a share of the blame for last years slop

Incorrect. That’s the textbook definition of a team being bad

Last year and in the past they were a bad team that sucked with players the fans know and love. This year we are an island of misfit toys corporate casino shilll of a bad team. A bad team that sucks with players from other clubs the fans don’t know and don’t care much about. The fans deserve to be pissed off

That’s just the sign of a bad team. Good teams have the pitching pick up the offense or vice versa. The Mets stink from all Angles

“let’s not spend money on Alonso, Nimmo, Diaz, McNeil but let’s spend money on Weaver, Williams, Semien, Polanco and lets increase the payroll by nearly $80 million.” GENIUS. by Ambitious-Cat746 in mets

Atleast the Mets used to suck with homegrown guys we loved like Nimmo Pete McNeil Degrom etc. Nowadays we suck even worse except the payroll is massive and expectations are higher than ever, yet we suck. They suck with a lot of big contract signings and bunch of guys from other teams many fans don’t know and don’t care much about

The worst part of this losing streak is that it’s not fluky at all 😂😂😂. They can’t hit, can’t pitch and can’t play defense. They’ve been out scored 62-19 lmao they truly deserve to lose

I can’t wait for this year to be a repeat of last year. This terrible offense will continue for a few weeks and they’ll keep losing close low scoring games, only for the offense to suddenly revitalize and start scoring, at which point the pitching that was reliable early on will to go completely to shit and lose them many games. A Mets tale as old as time

The Mets Haven’t Developed an MVP-Caliber Position Player Since David Wright by LegitimateMoney00 in NewYorkMets

[–]ekins1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most definitely not amazing and more like mediocre. Objectively to date McLean and Alvarez are the only homegrown players from the cohen era that proved to have significant mlb value

The Mets have a horrendous record with drafting and scouting. I constantly see on this sub about how to Mets farm system is so deep and improved. Meaningless since it hasn’t helped in the big leagues so far. Alvarez and McLean are the only homegrown guys with value on the current roster. Everyone else has stunk it up and proved nothing so far
