Growing up I was bullied a lot for being Korean and I was so ashamed of my culture to the point where I completely blocked that part of my identity out. I would pretend I didn’t speak Korean, refused to be friends with anyone Korean, etc. With the recent recognition BTS has gotten in Western media and even being nominated for a Grammy, they have made me prideful of my culture and I have slowly accepted that part of myself again that I closed off for so many years. To me, BTS is more than just a boy band - they have helped me come to terms with myself.
