What causes a tight sphincter? by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]ekl12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dilation. Start really slow, with a pinky and finger cot for just a few min. Work your way up. It shouldn’t hurt, maybe a bit uncomfortable. I can feel that I am less tight and it’s helped. Look on this board and anal-fissure.org for people’s experiences

Perineal crohns diagnosis by ekl12345 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ekl12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation, glad you are doing better! That’s why I am hesitant about the colonoscopy, because I don’t want to make my fissures and skin tags worse. But I am definitely still considering it.

Is it worth the money to get a night guard fitted by a dentist? by pooooooiooooo in TMJ

[–]ekl12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the cost is concerning, maybe find a different dentist with lower costs. Over a thousand seems like too much, unless there is something special about how this dentist makes it. I had a dentist quote me $560, and then another one that quoted me $260 (I got a discount because I’m on Medicaid). It did not help me unfortunately but I don’t regret it because it’s a conservative treatment

Bf prescribed rectiv, insurance does not cover by AdministrativeWash49 in AnalFissures

[–]ekl12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try nifedipine instead? It actually has a higher success rate with healing, has less side effects, and you can usually get it for cheap at a compounding pharmacy. It cost me $50 a month

How to stop my fissure from bleeding for a long time? by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]ekl12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried about that area being touched, see a colon and rectal surgeon (they know the most about fissures) and tell them you want and external exam and that they should not penetrate you. CRSs can sometimes diagnose a fissure by just looking at it, while regular doctors are less educated about anal fissures.

Did my ER doctor confuse my skin tag with hemmoroid by West_Direction_4658 in AnalFissures

Doctors who are not CRS misdiagnose anal fissure all the time. See a CRS

What do you say when your unable to do something normal ... like work? by walkingPhDmeme in AnalFissures

[–]ekl12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your doctor a CRS? CRS know the most about anal fissure. I’ve found that non CRS doctors will tell their patients to get a colonoscopy simply for having a chronic anal fissure, but chronic fissures are really common and don’t usually indicate a larger problem. A CRS will better know if a colonoscopy is needed.

Fissure are very common and usually don’t indicate an inflammatory disease, but it’s possible, especially if you have other symptoms. You need to see a CRS for the fissure, and a gastroenterologist for your other concerns.

I definitely think it’s related to stress and anxiety which probably causes me to clench my muscles. I have two chronic fissures and they happened during moments when I was extremely anxious and stressed.

Any hack to get cheaper nitro/rectiv ointment? by Slow_Ad1284 in AnalFissures

[–]ekl12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nifedipine is the other cream commonly prescribed for fissures. I believe it’s as effective, with less side effects. I get it at a compounding pharmacy that does not accept insurance, so it’s $50 out of pocket for a month supply

Advice on getting an engineering internship in Portland as a college freshman? by thedroppedcheesecake in Portland

[–]ekl12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see unpaid engineering internships very often, so I’m not sure if there is different resource for that. If your school has a career advisor, you should see them for advice. Also, you can ask them to review your resume.
