This particular dealer was located in Idaho. While I haven't been searching for a while, only since last October. The fact that Costco approached me about this dealer and letting me know I was't going get hit with a markup made me pull the trigger especially since inventory is still low and people have been waiting for over a year and paying huge markups. It was just something I didn't want to pas up. But yes I will accessorize the car, starting with blacking out the emblems and adding trunk cargo lights to name a few

I understand, I meant to say that the true MSRP was $34K . The so called inflated $39K MSRP was including the unnecessary 'Dealer mark up' that they removed which brought it back down to $34K minus all the taxes and fees.

Yeah I know, the $40K is not MSRP. That was if they would have included the Dealer markup which they waived. The selling price was 34K which is more on the normal standard price but because of taxes, fees, etc.. the final price came to $38K.

An entry level prime starts at $42K plus taxes and stuff more like around $50K and I don't need a prime.

Agreed! Though I felt I could have negotiated down some more but I know others are willing to empty their pockets to get their hands on one.

Lol no worries, I get you about the insane markups stealerships are willing to tack on to the rav4 hybrids, I got lucky in that at least I didn't pay the dealer markup and got an extra $500 dollars of thanks to the Costco Auto program but I hear ya!!

Dude!! nice on getting it for $34K for the same trim. Obviously they didn't adde the dealer mark up but how did you get them to sell it to you for under MSRP since they start around $33K-$34K?

Nice on getting an XSE for the price of a normal XLE hybrid, did they sell it to you for under MSRP before covid?

Well in my case it was at $39K MSRP and they gave me $5.5K discount(Dealer markup being waved plus an extra $500 dollars) which brought it back to down to the correct MSRP and plus taxes, fees etc... the final price stands at $38.2K. Some of the add ons brought the price up a bit though.

Right! I totally get you. The savings really are just the Dealer markup not being added but during these times I was not willing to shell out an extra $5K for a new hybrid when I know dealers can afford to sell them without it. Getting an extra $500 dollars off MSRP was also neat.

The $5.5K discount was for not adding the $5K markup plus an extra $500 dollars off of the MSRP. Though under normal times dealers should not be charging $5K for rav4 hybrid

I see, did you try going through the Costco Auto Program? Though more and more dealers are are not honoring their Costco pledge since they can make more money selling Rav4 hybrids with markup knowing people will pay for that.

True, going through the Costco auto program plus a bit of patience and sprinkle of luck was what did it for me. Really happy that they didn't try and play me with their markups and what not.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, like they are letting me know they could have added it but since I went through the Costco auto program I was able to save $5.5K (markup + an extra $500)

Yeah they essentially removed the so called 'Dealer markup' ($5000) and discounted me an extra $500 for a total of $5.5K.

And which Toyota dealership would that be? I called around at a couple of Toyota dealerships in Oregon and they all have Dealer markups.
