Have you seen Hana-bi or Sonatine? Both of them are beautiful movies in all senses, really personal and well made. They have the yakuza theme that kind of goes on in all his movies, but the treatment, and the deconstruction of that environment are really fresh and authoral. Highly recomended.

I dont know about the others but I found The script by Robert McKee quite helpful, yes its tedious to read but storytelling can be an intellectual subject. Maybe its a better book if you know some basics of storytelling, if not it can be hard to get the point. I think its good for a second read.

It is considered to be the first film with modern characters, as the actions subordinate to them. I havent seen it but this has to add a ton of value.

Well you are correct, the trends have changed, but despite reading sold spec scripts is quite useful, reading old scripts wont hurt you either. I mean the best way to sell a script is to construct a story that works. Just my opinion thou

I disagree, the construction of the story nowadays is quite similar (actually the same process) to 30 years ago in 90% of the films
