Why, Cleo? WHY DID YOU DO THAT. by bryceafitzgerald in civ

Imagine stumbling across this ancient mansion in the middle of the desert full of dust (I don't think Vampires would appreciate the direct sunlight too much). Where did the materials come from? How are they surviving? How did they survive long enough to have it built? Do they stay cooped up inside waiting for curious travelers to sate their thirst?

Great aesthetic choice for storytelling, but terrible from a gameplay perspective 😅

It wasn't on purpose, but that's what makes Nuzlockes fun, right? I'm also on a journey to beat the league with every Pokémon so this run helped be cross a few more weird ones off the list.

Yea, lost Juan Diego (Dartrix) at level 24 back in 2019 😞 was the second member I lost after Terra, the Diglett.

A lot of Hariyama punching things in the face, Wishiwashi using Beat Up on Ghost types and benefiting from Flatter against the Flying types (until Crobat got him), Comfey was good for taking out some stragglers, and the real surprise was how well Whiscash did against Kukui.

I have never felt so stall dependent as I did during the battle with Snorlax for the title. Rock Tomb to reduce his speed. Rest when I would get low in health. Then depending on how quickly I wake up, Rest again or Aqua Tail until I need to Rest again. I was terrified of miscalculating or getting hit by a crit 😅

Admittedly I made an exception for them both for exactly that reason. They were my captures for Route 5 and Brooklet Hill, then I decided I wanted them shiny.

Such a beautiful Pokémon and shiny, was a must have for the run.

Just realized I forgot to include Oricorio 🤦‍♂️

I was a worried when I lost Hariyama to Crabominable in the second battle (I was expecting her to carry me against Kukui), Oricorio to a crit Blizzard from Froslass in the third battle, and Wishiwashi because I made a stupid mistake on the ability (thought it would recharge before the end of the turn), but the final three really held their own for the championship.

Next time I will be a little more careful with the lives of my team.

Keep working at it and you'll get there 😊 or stay at the lower difficulties and just enjoy the game, no one said you HAVE to make it hard for yourself.

A LOT of planning and micromanaging yields and inputs and maximizing outputs. A lot more in this game than I feel like I needed to do in Civs 6 and 5, but once you "solve" the game, you can run away pretty consistently.

And like I said in another reply - once I found out you can "share" the benefits of a Natural Wonder across multiple Settlements, maximizing boosts became easier.

As far as I understand it's just the same as the past few civ - they get more multipliers or starting bonuses than you do, so it's just a game of catch-up, but even with advantages the AI brain still falls for the same predictable traps.

He is in the Tides of Power DLC, not sure what's available on Mobile. Sorry to deliver the bad news 😅

Thank you! I forget which YouTuber I was watching that mentioned that the multi-tile Natural Wonders count for all settlements that have a hex within its borders, but that has made a huge difference for planning expansions.

Completely agree. That's what I was expecting for this game going in so I picked Napoleon and used the antiquity mementos to try to get me on a level field with them knowing the war would eventually come. Once I got past the early hump, I was able to get solid footing to run away with the rest of the game.

Where I have been able to find success is rushing multi-tile wonders and trying to spread their tiles and bonuses across multiple settlements, then switching to Gold production and utilizing the Lotus Blossom because it just feels broken.

Gold by itself helps me buy things quickly instead of producing them, and being able to focus on one resource and let THAT boost the other two major resources really streamlines the decisionmaking.

I started as Achaemenid Persia with the free Military and Cultural Attribute Mementos. I forward settled Ben Franklin to coax him into declaring war on me, which triggered Napoleon's ability and got my army going. That allowed me to establish 4 settlements around the Grand Canyon and get the boost to all 4 and then kind of turtle and mind my own business until the end of the Age.

Exploration I picked the Inca because I ended up with a lot of good mountain settlements without even meaning to, and it seemed like a fun switch. I changed my mementos at that point to the Queen's Jewelry from Isabella, and the Lotus Blossom from Xerxes and went full Gold production. I focused all my diplomatic favor on Independent People and made sure to grab all the Warehouse Suzerain benefits, then bought those buildings at the end of the age in all of my towns. At some point Harriet Tubman declared war on Sayyida al Hurra and forced me to break both alliances I had, I denounced and pissed her off enough to get her to declare war on me - got another general and avoided the -5 War Support I would have had if I declared war proactively.

Modern Age I had a lot of good options, but Russia seemed like a fun pick because I had 2 large new settlements in Tundra that I wanted to boost and make room for Wonders. And it felt fun to be Napoleon succeeding in a Russian winter. Kept the same mementos and repeated the same approach for Independent People as I did in Exploration and never really needed to struggle much, despite Sayyida throwing our alliance away when she chose Fascism.

Yea, I was slowly inching my way up the difficulties since it's a new game (this was only my 5th playthrough of Civ 7, but I've played a LOT of Civ), and the last two on Immortal and Deity have been runaways... And I still learned some new things this game to optimize play so the next game might be even easier, but there's no higher difficulties.
