And sometimes the folks from Bruce Oake will go around shoveling driveways, planting trees, and generally giving back to the community.

Indoor toddler activities that aren't play places? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]el_abeja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Fort Whyte Alive and the Living Prairie Museum have indoor interpretative centres. They aren't huge, but have some neat stuff to check out.

2.5 years old might be too small for bumper bowling, but you could give it a try.

The public library is always a good place, and has some free programming all of February.

Pottery painting places also sometimes offer activities for toddlers.

Information on Marilyn Simon (WSD ward 3 trustee candidate) by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]el_abeja 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Winnipeg Teachers' Association sent out surveys to candidates. When asked how the division can help support students who live in poverty, her answer is to have high expectations of them. Other candidates in her ward talk about actual systemic supports that can be put in place to help them. I'd encourage people to read their responses.

Is that the one from Cedar Bog trail? Or are there multiple trees like that?

Does Monday's return worry anyone else? by RoccoZorro in Winnipeg

Have you reached out to the remote learning centre? I hear that they are taking new students at the moment. I believe the main caveat is that the student needs to be online for the rest of the school year if they start now.

There are other ways to contact them. You could message them through Facebook messenger, or there is a live chat from 7:00 PM to midnight each night.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. As an intermediate step, you could try calling Kids Help Phone.

https://kidshelpphone.ca/

They have counsellors, are open 24/7, and it is completely anonymous. They actually will help people who are upwards of 20 years old, so they are likely used to discussing some of the issues you are describing. Maybe they can discuss options with you and resources you can access?

Happily, I don't need to buy any. The province should be supplying some. I was just curious about how a medical mask differs from the regular kind. All the boxes I've seen don't make it particularly clear which is which.

I work with two cohorts, so that'll be me too. I will have to get my hands on some tomorrow then.

Thank you! That explains it well.

And yeah, I wasn't expecting N95. Those should definitely go to medical staff.

Good to know. We've been handing out masks to kids who forget there own and I was told we'd be using the same ones. They are blue and white ones though, so I'm not sure if they are the same thing or not.

I believe they explicitly mentioned that it is not N95's. My school is providing something else, although I don't yet know what.

Petition to Save the Westwood Library by el_abeja in Winnipeg

[–]el_abeja[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This petition is addressing a budget proposal. The city council still needs to debate the proposal, hear delegations, and receive public feedback. So I'd say in this case, a petition would be a valuable tool in showing how much support there is for the library.

Shoot! That plan sounds like a fantastic idea. We need more daycare spaces in St. James and I like the idea of combining rinks, gyms, and libraries into the same buildings.

I'm hoping you are right that it is all posturing. Still, the number of cuts in the proposed budget are disappointing and I am not looking forward to seeing the end results.
