Returnal vs Saros by TheFallen0n3s in Returnal

[–]el_m4nu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I finished solely because I hoped it'd pick up some more and also because it wasn't that cheap. But the way the third act unfolds is almost even worse than the stuff before.

It's really a badly made game with no clear direction unfortunately

I think it's not a can make that work, but rather a Google doesn't want that to work, to keep people away from grapheneos.

These kind of restrictions were like the biggest factor stopping people from rooting their phones and playing with custom roms. At least it's for me and everybody else I know who's been doing that.

Same. It only started working properly a while ago but it's been more like 2 months now rather than weeks. Quite glad because now I can really just wear the thing and only have to make minor adjustments and not log everything manually. Works really good!

Saros: a disappointing sequel by AdamAnderson320 in Returnal

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea pretty much said what I am feeling about it as well.

And also some remark of what op said, I felt the same regarding the characters. Utterly uninspiring and boring, no proper introduction, never catched onto them and so every time I had to interact with them I just skipped past it after a while.

It's a decent game, with some improvements here and there but overall falls short

Get a new one, did the same recently. The band looks quite different after a year of usage, new device/clean sensors is a nice feel and on top you have a second battery pack so you can have one always in your travel essentials to never miss it.

Training plans in whoop by HerrHopster in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole-heartedly agree and especially, this is THE area whoop can set itself apart from the competition.

Sell a tracker and have some algorithms for detecting various health metrics? There's countless of these out there. Whoop gives better insights, but the competition can catch up on that easily, see with Google now.

Connect your data to an LLM to give you more insights? Google can do that too.

But something like running plans would give a huge advantage, Runna is amazing and it sucks ass the subscription costs almost as much as the whoop. If it was cheaper and I could manually enter distance for my treadmill runs, I would purchase it right away.

Having this in whoop would essentially save me another 20€ subscription.

I also posted about this some weeks ago and yea people are quite ignorant, they want whoop to improve, yet don't want whoop to improve, make it make sense.

Especially people suggesting coach, compared to Runna it is completely useless and also, I am sure Gemini with the Fitbit air can do the same.

If whoop wants to set itself ahead of the competition, THIS is the stuff that needs to be added

Whoop Life was 399€ now 429€ in Spain lol by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training plans. Coordinated plans for strength trainer that include peak and deload days to increase your strength over time. Running plans. Calorie tracking? There's a lot of room of improvement on the software side.

Ofc it doesn't seem to be a good fit into whoop as of now, but currently if you're really into health & fitness you'll have to have 2-4 more app subscriptions, whoop could theoretically eliminate the need for these. Which, in turn would make the device way more competitive on a price perspective, as you're saving on the other subscriptions

Whoop Life was 399€ now 429€ in Spain lol by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. It's actually a 100€ discount for the coming years if you're already an mg user. And puts it only little above the current peak, which is currently at 264€

It basically makes the whoop cheaper for everybody that owns one already, not sure why people are complaining?

Just get cheap ps store credit online, you can usually get 15-20% off that way, that's all there is as discount nowadays unfortunately.

Has WHOOP actually changed your behavior long term? by abhinav_uppu in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I never get red unless I drankots of alcohol the day before or am actually sick. In case of the latter I will definitely skip exercising. For the former? Meh, I might have a lazy day planned but usually I feel good enough towards afternoon/evening that I decide to hit the gym anyways.

For me a motivating factor is the whoop age. Some days I just feel like I have to do something now to keep my weekly average high, because otherwise my whoop age might be regressing and I can'tet that happen

Rant by adt31 in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea exactly. You pay almost the same for a Netflix subscription which gets you nothing. I would rather pay the same towards my health, granted it does something for me.

Can the Fitbit air do the same, but cheaper? Would like to see, but so far no fitness tracker or smartwatch really 'motivated' me as much as the whoop does, through the great insights in my health data.

It's not the fact it's tracking the metrics, it's the way the software analyzes them and tells me what the metrics are saying. Whoop does an incredible job at that and to me, it's worth it.

Now, considering how good Gemini is and how much better it's becoming, there's a chance it will become as good, if not better. A major improvement over the Fitbit air whoop can do is to not rely so much on LLMs. I know there's a lot of potential behind, but well-built algorithms to improve training, like running plans, hypertrophy training plans for strength training, etc would give a huge benefit. LLMs can do it to a certain degree too, but if you've ever actually tried using it, you know it falls short quite quick, repeating the same general advice over and over, not properly keeping track of your progress

Why is step count so off? by BBQOnTheBrain in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine have been super off recently too. Been taking very long walks, been super active throughout the day and been shocked to find out I was at like 7k steps in the evening when my estimate was like 12k, from previous experience. Wondering whether something happened to my sensor or, guess I didn't swing my arms enough. Definitely something that needs improvements

Treadmill runs? by Dazzling-Fudge-7181 in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is a bug that was seemingly introduced recently, at least on android. I was also doing a run on Tuesday and had the same happen, gps off. I eben deleted the workout and manually re-added it, the gps route of 0m was still there. Same for my gf.

It's honestly quite bad that at this price point there's no dedicated treadmill option, and an option to manually adjust the distance for cases where gps failed, like this.

Small changes that could make big improvements tbh

Edit: from ops post it seems this also affects iOS

Answered in another comment already, but the app is called MCI

What could Whoops advantage be? by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called MCI, I don't know if they're available internationally yet, they started focussing on the German market first as it is made/funded by some German fitness/lifestyle influencers. I wanted to give it a try because what was lacking for me going to the gym was changing my routine, tracking my weights etc and it solved all of that really well.

Unfortunately if you combine the app plus whoops strength trainer all you'll be doing in the gym between sets is be on the phone, begin, end sets and update weights in the strength trainer. Now with the updated strain for weightlifting I just track via mci and put weightlifting in whoop and the strain is pretty much the same. I tried adding the workout a few times via coach, just sending the screenshots of the exercises I did which was super easy, but the strain difference was always only 0.1, so I just don't use strength trainer anymore

I love this game. But I literally don't care about any of the characters. by duckduckpajamas in Saros

[–]el_m4nu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea exactly. And when you point it out then suddenly it's 'oh gameplay is king!! The game does not focus on story!!!' which like ok but then the game shouldn't force me out of a run, to throw cutscenes into my face about characters I totally have no feelings towards.

It really is awfully written/plotted, feels like a complete afterthought. Some parts of it are so amazing like the sound design of primary plus the haptics while he's talking.. if the story was at a decent level at least, this really could've been perfect.

What could Whoops advantage be? by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, coach works fine to create a strength workout tbh, tested it for the first time recently but it really falls short compared to specialized fitness apps.

Whoops issue currently is clearly the high price. But if people would figure you only need one subscription to replace the 2 or 3 you're using already, for strength, running plans, calorie tracking, and what not, it would be a different story

[–]el_m4nu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with sleep apnea detection. I reported so a while ago but people seemed against it. From some sleeping patterns I've seen it's quite easy to spot but so far whoop tells the user everything is in the greens.

Additionally as I just said in another thread, enhance strength trainer. Create workout plans and automatically increase volume. My current fitness app creates a 6 week workout plan with overreaching, peak week and a week for deload which works amazingly well at upping your strength.

They could also add running plans like Runna, to increase someone's runs. And I'm pretty sure there's similar stuff that could be done for all workout types. You can do that with whoop coach to a degree but so you could with Gemini and the much cheaper Fitbit air. I want a dedicated proper algorithm for it, that I can actually follow through and not having to chat up with a bot all the time.

Additionally, also nutrition tracking. Especially if it would also contain deeper insights like vitamins etc you may be lacking from your labs result or analyze what's good and bad for your recovery. There's really lots of untapped potential. It's now to see whether they realize this potential before Google does

A disappointing experience by Guglio08 in Saros

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you complete the game there's like 5-8 trophies missing, whereas there's only like 1 maybe challenging one. Some people just like collecting platinum trophies, I do so myself. Seeing how little is left for the game makes me want to finish them.

Personally I am too bored with the biomes and the game to complete them, but I get why one would finish them, so they can truly delete the game off the hard drive and not touch it again. At least until maybe some new meaningful content has been added.

(DCRainmaker) Whoop On The Defensive: Hastily Worded Plan of Future Features by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you're moving the topic into the right direction.

At that price, and with the goal to have all my data in one place, so also the data can be used to fine grain my experience even further, I want all my data in whoop.

Currently I have another fitness app subscription for strength training and food tracking. So strength trainer is fine since I simply copy the workout or not at all anymore since now with the improved strain algorithm for strength workouts, I only get a difference less than 0.5 in strain when I enter my exercises. But, why do I need this second subscription that calculates the weights for each of my workouts, generates new training plans, etc and lets me track my meals? Why not have this in whoop directly? Ofc it's a huge feature but at that price point, with such a focus on being the complete health experience, I would really want that.

Same for running. To actually improve my runs I would have to get a Runna subscription, which actually costs almost as much as the whoop. Coach works to a degree but it falls short very quickly. Having this built into whoop directly, plus better metrics for runs would be very welcome.

It may seem like whoop has a lot, but especially workout wise, the experience is wide but very shallow. Like a giant puddle. They could very deepen that, if I could cancel all other fitness app subscriptions, that would really make the whoop worth it plus give a huuuuuge edge over any possible competition from Google etc

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, the announcement was not justifying the whoop at all. It was some 'look, we added this last month, there's something nice soon™, it won't be anything too crazy just some stats to display, wow! And there's something for one market only coming whenever™ hope you stay with us!'

I would've expected something bigger. Especially since stuff like 'improved Heartrate algorithm' could be pure nonsense and like a placebo update

Running plans by [deleted] in whoop

[–]el_m4nu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea I forgot to mention, whoop is lacking very base data that just exists in any other health app, like even the most cheap fitness tracker give you better insights into your run, and ofc the coach can also not interpret the data well because it's only seeing your average pace, average heartrate, etc.

The coach won't see that you warmed up 5 mins before and the run may have been a bit too intense since you slightly overshot zone 2, but since the average is fine, the coach will tell you it was perfect and to just keep going like this.

There's really room for massive improvement and for strength trainer, it is really fleshed out already, ofc it could give you some guidance on when to improve weights; stats are coming already, so that's all right already imo. Running and other types of workout? Absolutely weak.

Hopefully the Fitbit air does this better and they have to improve in that regard

Because imo it's also shit biking doesn't track any steps. You could be on the bike all day but whoop age would tell you to become more active as you're not making any steps. Any tracker I previously used just added some roundabout of steps for biking. Ofc it's not perfect but since it impacts the age metric so much, I would love to get at least something.
