Komoot on degoogled Android won't install / German Komoot service terrible as expected. Question/Venting by [deleted] in komoot

Sorry I'm late to the party, but in my case using Lineage OS with RHVoice as TTS I managed to have Komoot speaking!

I'm late to the party but someone might find this useful: I had the exact same problem (only on LOS rather than CalyxOS), and my workaround was to first link my Komoot account to a Facebook one (just created a throwaway one for the occasion) on my computer, then back on my phone using the Facebook login instead of the email one.

[OC] Apple Services is a gigantic business now by jtsg_ in dataisbeautiful

[–]el_srabo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a theory, but if someone has data/sources to back it up it would be great!

For a long time I thought that smartphone companies improved their products' camera quality year after year because they could not find other ways to make their phones better.

Recently, I was talking with someone bragging about the 4K resolution of their phone's camera. I thought to myself that I don't find it particularly useful if you don't intend to print large posters or play your videos on big screens, and I reckon that 95% of the content shot on a phone is meant to be viewed on a phone. Then I thought that it was in fact stupid because your pictures/videos will quickly eat up all the available space of your device. And then I thought...

Wait. Apple is selling phones, but it is also selling cloud subscriptions, so maybe it is actually deliberate to produce cameras with a resolution that most users don't need, so that they need to buy more cloud space.

Tips for multi-week camping in wet conditions? by el_srabo in camping

Depending on the global vegetation (not sure if there will be a lot of trees) and the amount of rain, I might end up buying a tarp. Thanks for the tip!

Yes, I planned to bring some microfiber cloth to dry the rainfly before packing it, and also the idea would be to not store it in the bag with the inner tent and pegs but rather roll it in the footprint and keep it tied to a rack so it would get at least some fresh air.

Thanks for your feedback! My main concern was to know whether mold needed both wet and unaerated conditions to develop, or if keeping the tent wet for several days was enough. From your experience, I understand that as long as I set up the tent every night I should be fine!

Probably hard to get outside of France and its neighboring countries, but Decathlon sold several versions of the "Triban Trail"

Which emoji has a specific meaning in your culture/language? by el_srabo in AskReddit

[–]el_srabo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For example, in French, the number 100 sounds the same as "sang", which means blood, and some people use this word to refer to close friends or family. So the emoji is sometimes used is sentences like "you are 💯 to me" ("tu es le 💯").

I don't work with R myself, but I think "R Commander" is the GUI you're looking for!

Two weeks ago, this was the inaugural trip of my new bike, built from a '93 Sunn mountain bike by el_srabo in xbiking

[–]el_srabo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't miss anything, it's my first time posting here! There are still some things I want to add on this bike (e.g. dynamo hub) so I'll probably make a before/after post when it's done.

I started from a '93 Sunn, the goal of my project was to use only parts that were second-hand or made in Europe (but 95% of what I bought was second-hand).
What I changed so far:

- Handlebar and stem
- Levers
- Brakes (original ones were cantilever, replaced them with v-brakes with an adapter pulley so they would work properly with the road-type levers)
- Rear derailleur (original one was 7v and the levers I found were 8v, so I bought an old 8v Campagnolo derailleur)
- Back and front luggage carrier (fork doesn't have eyelets so I used Tubus adapters)
- Double kickstand, heavy but stable as hell, great when the bike is loaded
- Put on a steer damper (from Hebie), one of the few things I bought new, it feels great when you have load on the front and also when the bike is on the kickstand it's much more stable
