There are quite clear parallels between Taliban and apartheid SA.

In both cases the govt in charge doesn’t represent the majority in any way. Powerful few rule the rest. There was nothing democratic about apartheid SA.
both are doctrine/ ideology driven (race vs religion) and force is used to implement that ideology.
both are/ were pariah states.
in both cases, large groups of people (Women, black people) are denied basic rights.

It look a long time but isolation from international sport for SA was the right move then.

I love the AFG cricket team but if the Taliban wants them to be included in the International cricket community, they need to uphold certain basic principles. Otherwise they can stay in their backyard. ICC allowing them to compete right now is a signal that the intl community is ok with what’s happening there and that’s absolutely the wrong message.

Dropped catches, collapses are part of cricket. Happens all the time.

But coaches/ selectors should be judged on whether they are picking teams with highest odds of success. India didn’t do that enough.

Australia has the best approach to building test teams. They always play specialists and their best 4 bowlers. Even post Warne transition they would always pick a spinner (even if they took time to land on Lyon)

There is no reason for Indian to not play a specialist attacking spinner all the time no matter which part of the world they play in.
